Backups fail, burns are successful, help me impress my little boy please (-;/

I've followed all the protocols ten times over so please don't tell me to read the threads, unless you know exactly where. I've put over 2 weeks of reading and watching video tutorials and I just have no more time to do it on my own, furthermore, I'm disabled and sitting for long periods is agonizing. Catch you up to speed with a quick backstory. I spent almost 2 weeks, 4-6 hrs a day trying to get this far. I'm no dummy, I used to repair F15 jet fighters and I can rip and burn movies Lucas would watch in his home theater. I couldn't make an iso from a rar, no matter what I did, yes, of course I know how to unzip a rar file, it turned out to be a file association issue, I'd tried using MagicISO and others and it appears one of them changed my file associations so my rars wouldn;t extract burnable iso's. I fixed that. Burned my first game and it was black and white, but it's a big step. Now, I've burned 8 discs that won't load in my loader channel or play, very possible I need to adjust for a PAL setting I'd bet? How do you know if the host file doesn't say NTSC or PAL (not all divulge this) So my immediate quesitons. Where is a list of the settings I need to change in my Wii Homebrew to force PAL to play? Do I select PAL 480I? (not a high def TV in my boys room), will I need to switch back and forth each time I play PAL or NTSC? Any other reason you can surmize I can't play the discs I'm burning? FYI I'm using Verbs, burning at 2X, my PC is fine, some spyware issues but I can still burn fine, I have plenty of ram, the Wii is modded and Neogamma was set up by a "pro". I don't like reading whiners and I'm not one, but I've put about 100 hrs into this, I just want one win! My little boy has been so patient and I really want to come through for him, please ask any questions you need to, I am fine with polite criticism, I'm a good guy and I'm reasonably intelligent, I just can't get this.
I welcome all suggestions. I only have 38 more discs (DVD-R) heh heh
Thanks friends, at your earliest convenience please, I'd love to give him just one game before bed. You'd make a gorgeous, sweet little boy's day!

Well, new Wii? If so, will never read burned discs. Why you downloading games? Something wrong with USB loading? Guess you didn't follow a WiiHacks guide either, so you must be a failtube modder. How about Introduce Yourself. You will then get a list of very useful links to guides. Do some reading/searching on the forum

hi and welcome to the forum,i am sure you going to get someone with other ideas but i will give you mine. (i might be wrong but they have helped me in the past)
if your games are black and white yes you can change the region,i norm change the setting to wii/disc/ntsc ect in neogamma,try loading the ntsc ect allso what are you using to burn your game? imgburn is the software you need and pre viburnum -r discs plus what speed you burning your games at i find burning them at 2x speed works better others might disagree..like i siad try it and see but i am sure other members will have there opinions..let us know how you get on.you can allso have a look round the forum there is some very usefull tutes and stuff.

Guess I should have been more thorough, but I didn't want to get flamed for being too "wordy", some techie sites are fairly snobby and the guys in the middle of the pack (not the noobs or the seniors/mods) will slam you if you don't post to their exact expectations which of course we don't know. One guy calls you out for saying too much, another for not giving enough info. Always a breath of fresh air to find another site besides Toms that doesn't use noobs as target practice.
Let me give you a bit more, you're in the neighborhood: I have the older one you can do backup discs with for sure, I know because I played one the guy who did my work for me gave me, plays DVD's too, even my burned ones as I recall. I only use Imgburn. When I make my iso's I'm still not getting the little silver disc icon of the image on my desktop, but after unraring, I do get an unrar'd single file out of 100 rars, the size is correct 4,699,xxx,xx etc and the icon is the Imgburn icon since I made my iso file association default to Imgburn. The burns are going from start to finish, no failed burn with the Norweigian chick saying "oh damn, we have a problem" (still makes me laugh), but when I pop it in my Wii, you can hear it attempt to load it and then it fails at 4%. Like I said, yesterday I made a game that came out perfect but in B&W. I'm burning at 2X, I'd have to guess the file I had was a PAL and I didn't know which settings to change on that menu (force PAL)
Believe me, I've spent more time than anyone would on independent searches before coming to you guys. I'm the "unlaziest" guy you'd ever meet.
Your suggestions will be met with great appreciation, I'm a humble guy and know when I know less.

Black & White is classic of out of region games, which can be fixed by enabling the force region in the loader.

Presumptuous, I own legit discs of both NTSC and PAL, I had the guy who did my Wii put my disc files on my PC as well as my HDD, so I suppose I should have worded it differently. I bought many of the commercial discs from him and before he loaded them up for me, he didn't tell me which were PAL and which were NTSC. At this point I'll assume you don't have a child, but kids destroy discs, henceforth "backing up". I'm not going to spend $50 twice because my discs get damaged, sorry if you don't approve, I even bought an $800 commercial disc repair machine to try to minimize dealing with backups, but some scratches are too deep for any machine. Now, if you have any other further judgements before you so much as say "hello" to me, knock yourself out. The Mods are free to lock the thread and I'm betting you know exactly who to contact if you're just trolling the site as the resident whistle blower, but people do deal with disc files for other reasons besides pirating my friend. At least get a few facts before you start the accusations, I am no pirate. Happy to send you photos of any game I ask about. Just 16 posts in 3 years and you chose my "daddy trying to impress his kid" thread, how'd I get so lucky?

You're very kind, thank you. Please read my reply to Chubbs, fellow Noob late to the party on reminding me of the forum guidelines. I own the discs (the ones I don't were scratched beyond repair by my 5 year old) The guy who modded my Wii sold me used commercial discs, both PAL and NTSC. I didn't know to ask questions like that 2 years ago when I bought my Wii, I'm 47, we old guys aren't too hip!I bought some games at those gamestop type places in the mall too. Own a disc for 10 minutes with a 3 yr old (now 5) and it looks like someone took a Brillo pad to it, they were used to begin with. I also do my own movies, backing up my old VCR tapes and Disney movies he's wrecked. If what I'm describing isn't textbook "fair use" then by all means, please close the thread, I want to be welcome back, one question some overzealous noob twisted into something else entirely without so much as a "may I ask you if..." isn't worth my inability to visit here. I'm disabled and made most of my friends on movie sites (legitimate topic ones) I raise a 5 yr old and I'm disabled, so I can't get out much to make friends, sites like this are my paradise.

You are fine, but have to be sure on the rules, everyone has to follow them regardless.

Now, back to the problem, is there a reason why you don't usb load your games? It is far superior than dealing with discs, and a real time saver to boot. Most of the time, when you have to go online to get your game because your disc is unreadable, it should be labeled NTSC or PAL, but another way to check is look at the Game ID of the game itself, say for example New Super Mario Brothers, for the NTSC version it is SMNE01, and for PAL it is SMNP01. Sometimes you might have to load it into a game manager on the computer to see this ID if the file isn't labeled per se. I would suggest reading about USB loading and the different loader you can use to access your games via USB hard drive. Read this HERE about USB loading. As for the B&W issues, all loaders can fix that as I said by just forcing the region of your Wii on the individual game that is giving you problems. Here is one helpful post. Make sure you are up to date with the latest Neogamma, check here.

Totally understand, I wouldn't expect otherwise. I went with discs because I'm good at making them, backed up hundreds of tapes as they degrade over time, also discs he's damaged (Wyatt). Also I've read about "bricking" and I don't know what causes it, didn't want to risk that, I've read the articles and it seems there are many ways to brick it.
Now for more details, I bought Wyatt a Wii when he was barely 3, believe it or not I didn't know a 3 year old couldn't play a Wii. This means he's had 2 years to trash the discs, and 2 years for me to mess up the files crashing my PC's every 6 months or so (usually messing with registry cleaners, not nefarious files!) So over 2 years Wyatt has destroyed commercial discs and I have done-in an equal amount of them by torching my PC's. I'm the curious sort, I tend to click around to learn what a PC can do, I've made many mistakes along the way and it's cost me. I'd do it again, I like learning the hard way on my own, that's why I spent 2 weeks making coasters before I sought help from you good folks.
Anyway, I will immediately try what you've suggested, I'm sorry if I tee'd off on the guy who called me a pirate, but I made no such inference and I found it presumptuous as I didn't ask question #1 about downloading, my question was a regional one, period. For those reading this post, my comments weren't directed at this member, they were directed at someone else who posted after Brian had already reminded me of the forum rules and I didn't appreciate him gang tackling me when I'd not yet explained my quandry in any detail.
