    Safe to install wad files?

    Hello everyone,

For the past week I have been researching wii hacking and homebrew and I just finished Mauifrogs guide and have everything working great. I read through as much documentation as I could to make sure I didn't break anything but I'm still unsure about something.

What I was wondering is how safe is it for me to install wad files I find online? I know about malicious wad files and all that but...

Are wad files regional in any way? Would installing a US one on my European wii brick it?

Really? Are some wads regional? Would installing a wad from a different region harm my system?

Is there anywhere I can read more about it? I'm not finding anything on Google.

The only wads you should be installing would be ios/cios wads or maybe a channel wad. All of the channels can be downloaded through the shop channel, they will be safe. If you need a forwarder channel they are covered on this site. The ios/cios wads are all covered in various guides throughout the site as well. Being that you just used mauifrog's guide, you should be fine in the ios/cios department. What kind of out of region wads are you referring to?

There is a ton of WAD info on here if you look and read.

Oh, gasp! We're not talking about a potential rule violation, are we?

Well the only wad I've used so far is Visual Boy Advanced but I'm just asking for peace of mind. I'm only getting started with all the new things I can do with my wii and there's a lot of stuff to learn.

So to clarify, any wad from the shop channel is ok? And wads from sites like this or wiibrew? Would they be ok unless it explicitly says the wad is regional?

if you have homebrew browser then you can get emulaters and channels for some of them off that but you have to have your wii connected to the internet

    There is no such thing.

If they are official they are safe and usually region free.

Any WAD install can fail or cause problems regional or not.
