I have never used an HD or Blueray player, so I don't know much/anything about the files, but if the quality was lowered on a ripped blueray disc to that of DVD quality (480p), would WiiMC be able to play the videos? This doesn't really have much practical application, but I was wondering what exactly stopped WiiMC from playing HD videos. Is it the HD itself, or something about the files.

yeah, you can transcode the blu ray and resize it, but what good will that do, you are still limited to 480p maximum res. And WiiMC can not render VC-1 / H264 encoded files, if it could, it would stroke out the Wii regardless because of the power needed to view it.

That's the only thing bad about the Wii and WiiMC. Damn 480p res. It will play a 720p file but not properly (not even close).
    Damn I suck!!!!

I know very little about this kind of stuff (but I make up for it by being awesome), so your second sentence confused me (don't bother explaining).
Other than if you had a small HDD and wanted to take several videos around, I don't see a practical application. I was just curious.
