    3.0 + 2.0 USB WD issues

Has anyone had luck with the newer WD my passport external HD that are 3.0 + 2.0 USB?? I thought I read somewhere that 3.0 USB drives do not work well with backup loaders i.e. wiiflow, cfg loader etc. All the new drives seem to be moving in this direction. The exact model is :My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 + 2.0. 1TB. Just curious thanks..

Well, USB 3.0 is backwars compatible, so something that is USB 3.0 could very well be marketed as USB 3.0 + 2.0. I have never tested it, but I would just go for a USB 2.0 drive to be sure.
Awesome sig picture does not work

    Ok so testing so far:
    Wiiflow-no go
Gx loader yes homebrew no with fwd ch.
Cfg loader working with fwd ch. working so far. Hope this helps others that have USB 3.0. I would not recommend getting one if you can avoid it. Looks like all manufactures are moving towards this. Not good compatibly with current back up loaders we have today. Might want to pick up a couple of 2.0 USB only for a rainy day!!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I didn't want to create another for the same type of question.

I currently have a 500GB WD Passport USB 2.0 only drive and it works great with all loaders. Also have had a few for my brother and sister and they work great too.

I want to upgrade to a 1TB. I have a person that has a brand new in the box WD Passport 1TB Essential USB 2.0/3.0 for only $60! Model # wdbacx0010bbk-nesn. I couldn't find it on either compatibility list and want to know before I buy it, if its going to work.

So I have been reading a bit, and find that the Wii/USB loaders are having trouble with the USB 3.0 drives.

I see a few success stories, and a lot more bad stories about these drives. WD and Seagate and others are now making them standard with the 3.0 feature.

So has there been anyone recently that got a WD Passport 2.0/3.0 and it works ok?

Any new information or testing with the different loaders like, CFG Loader, WiiFlow and USB Loader GX? I have them all, but curious to know how they have them formatted and what loaders work with 3.0. I don't want to keep deleting games to add new ones.....so can anyone confirm any new information about the new 3.0 interface drives??

Thanks! Any replies would be appreciated!

Last week I bought a 3TB external HDD. WD My Book Essential USB 3.0 + 2.0. After partitioning it, I couldn't get WBFS Manager to load or format it. When trying to backup discs on my wii I could format the partition and load the discs. I used CFG Loader v67 They worked and I could play them, however WBFS Manager didn't work still. I tried WiiBackupManager and that has been working nicely. I have some problems with some homebrew crashing/not recognizing like WiiXplorer, Homebrew Browser. If I unplug the HDD, they load like normal.

Just picked up that 1TB WD Passport Essential SE USB 2.0 / 3.0 drive (WDBACX0010BBK-00) yesterday and seems to work fine. I posted in the Compatibility List, as what I did prior to it working.

Installed SmartWare Software (didn't like it with my other Passports, but installed it again to adjust sleep timer of the 1TB), Formatted fresh NTFS. Adjusted the "Sleep Timer" within the SmartWare software to "Never" and then formatted to WBFS (i only use my drives for Wii games, and don't mind using an SD card as well as keeping it old school...lol). Transferred a few known problematic games and played for over an hour with no issues. Left the game paused over night to see if the drive would spin down or sleep after a certain amount of time (since I formatted to WBFS after adjusting the "sleep timer" in the SmartWare software) and when I woke up and turned the TV on, it was still paused and active.

So I assume it is working fine, I have been transferring the rest of my games from my current 500GB to my new 1TB and will test again once it's done. So if anything changes or something doesn't work, I'll be sure to update this post as well as the other post in the Compatibility List thread. I was quite nervous this wouldn't work right, or I'd have to stick with my 500GB and use this new one for my personal files....but seems like I got lucky (so far)!

Still to this day I stand by WD Passports as they STILL haven't let me down! I have had a 320GB for personal use and Wii games, then got a 500 GB for personal use and Wii games and both work great with both computer and Wii. Not to mention they fit in your shirt pocket, and no need for external power source. Also have modded my brothers and sisters Wii and they haven't had any issues with theirs. Now my new one seems to be working as well as the others! I am very satisfied and will continue to support, recommend and purchase the Passports until they prove me wrong! Still have a couple hours until the games finish transferring, so I hope they all play just as they did when I first tested! Don't see why anything would change, but you never know!
