Homebrew and SoftMod Chip Loader Update Help!!

Hey,
I'm new, and I have a question. For the past few weeks, I've been trying to burn some cds and play it on my softmod chip loader. I found out that the problem was that I needed to update since, they have come out with version 101, and I was on 92.
I got an SD card, the ones specifically for the Wii, and extracted the new version and put it into my Wii. Nothing updated when I clicked SD card and data ,etc. I got frustrated and gave up last week. Then, I tried to update my Homebrew channel, no luck in that. It seemed like my SD card had nothing in it.
What should I do? Because I really can't afford Wii Games right now. :044:
Also, I have been using DVD-R, which is the correct format.
Please help me!

.... You misunderstood my meaning of that. I meant I can't afford my Wii Games scratched and all. So I use my backup.

Ok, what exactly is a softmod chip loader?

How old is your Wii? Is it even capable of playing burned discs?

Where you would even get it from now days? The dev's page is down and the Google Code page has been wiped clean. LOL

Yeah, I still play the ones that are capable of IOS 249. But thats it.

Well should I install some other loader? :P Will it affect anything? Because I don't want to mess it up that I can't play the backups I have now.
Because of my SD card problem, I don't know if I could .

NeoGamma does a great job of launching backups both Wii and GC. The Wii brand SD card is highly compatible. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with one. Is it properly formatted and how is it structured?
