    DVD Movies not Playing (4.2U)

    I have 4.2U.

I am not able to play DVD movies.

Mplayer-ce says mounting then nothing happens.

    WiiMC says error.

The DVD movies are borrowed from my public Library.

If your Wii is newer than 18 months old, what you seek is not possible (owing to the D3-2 or D4 drive that would be housed within your Wii's innards).

When did you bought your wii? If you bought your wii around Nov 2009 or later you have a d3-2 or d4 drive. This drive wont let you read dvd-+r.

Can you launch game backups? or does this only happens with movies?

Check which drive you have here

The console has model number RVL-001(USA), produced for the North American market.

    * There is a 50% chance the chipset is GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip.
    * And there is also a 25% chance the chipset is GC2-D2E.
    * Lastly, a 25% chance the chipset is Combined GC2-D3 with no drive chip.

Via optical backup (meaning burned discs) or otherwise?

I never tried that. Would I need a launcher to try a backup DVD game?

Is there a way to play it over the network if I put the DVD in my Laptop, without copying the whole DVD to Laptop's hard-drive?

This only reinforces the idea it's a D3-2/D4 drive. We toldya if it's a little over a year old or newer, it won't play DVDs. When did you buy it (presuming you bought it new)?

I purchased it from Staples.ca in December 2009.

I never tested it because I did not have DVD burner.

Unless Staples had old stock, D3-2/D4 and won't play burned discs or store bought movie DVDs (via optical).
