Trying again: What can a modded Wii do for me?

Well, I screwed up my first post royally by not understanding something in the rules (sorry mods...). Let me try again with a post adhering to the rules.

Over the summer, I used the topics on this discussion board to softmod (I hope that's the right term) my Wii. This is the first console modding I've ever done. These boards are great, because everything went fine. I got the homebrew channel going and everything. But after that, I hit a brick wall as I couldn't figure out what the advantages were, and didn't really touch my Wii because I hadn't bought any games besides Wii Sports which it came with.

I see great things said about homebrew, games on SD cards, and so on. But I'm having trouble finding info about what exactly this means on the site. Have people made their own games to play? Do they make it so you can port older games? I've read things about using a USB hard drive, I'll try to find the posts about that again to reread.

These are the kinds of questions I'm not sure about. If you even have links to topics that cover them, it'd be greatly appreciated. I'll continue to read the forums, and hopefully figure out some of the capabilities. Thanks for your help.

I haven't fully utilized my Softmodded wii which i did using messie's guide
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommmended...tem-menus.html

I have been able to play Wiiware and Virtual Console games Downloaded in WAD files
I am fortunate to have a Wii that will play burned Wii Games however I am limited to dvd-5 games because I can not obtain DVD-9s so I can't play Metroid: other M but i can play stripped down versions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl (typically a Dvd9 but can be stripped down) anyways I can also play PAL and NTSC-J games although some of these games are buggy, I deal with it cause well... it's cheap. I have seen people with Emulators on their Wii in which they can play Romz and such but most of these Emu's have no 2 player ability. (Dammit cause I really wanna play TMNT 4: Turtles in Time)

you can still play standard Wii games such as NSMB Wii but make sure your stuff is Scrubbed cause you DO NOT want to Update your Wii.

Hope this helps you out. I'm still workin on how to play GC games that were burned using NeoGamma

I only really see two questions and they are homebrew related.

Yes. Or they have ported over open source games like SuperTux.

Once again yes. There are several emulators and game engines for the Wii making it capable of playing older games for other consoles, handhelds, arcade games, and PCs.

If you install games to a usb hdd the scrubbing is not needed since the usb loader will not read the update partition of the ISO.

You should make an into post in the introduction section, there you will receive links to guides and other thing you can do with your Wii besides playing Wii backup games.

Not to hijack This Is Gonna Hurt's thread but check the links in my sig. Particularly my MAME compatibility list and my emulation guide part 2.
