Upgrading 4.1u to 4.3 with Bootmii installed

    Hey all,

I can install bootmii either ios or boot2. If I upgrade (forced by Epic Mickey), what will happen to bootmii? I heard it is erased and the boot2 is fixed? It also removes bannerbomb which is the only way I have avail currently. Would I have to reinstall? What is removed or changed...?

    Thanks,

    Josh

Both bootmii's will be erased, and you will risk a brick. You need to install Priiloader so you can block updates, then update your IOS's manually with the guide in my signature. You will then be able to play all games without updating.

    Seriously?

What if I uninstall them both? Still risk a brick?

And since it deletes bootmii, the nand backup would be useless? Any way to create a more safe less brickable wii? If I installed priiloader, does that have a backup system to unbrick?

Hacks don't make updates dangerous, Nintendo does. The only difference is that if it isn't hacked, you can't fix it. Keep both bootmii's and don't update your Wii. You don't need to.

When you install Priiloader you won't have to worry about updating. Why are you so concerned about it? If you follow my directions, you will be able to play all games without updating and losing homebrew (plus risking a brick).

I'm trying to play Epic Mickey and it forces an update. So I can install Priiloader and turn off updates and then not have to update my sys menu, correct? And while I am at it, is there a nand backup or similar with Priiloader that I can do to help prevent bricks?

    Thanks for all the help!

NAND backups are done with Bootmii. The only thing that can cause a permenant brick when you have bootmii is a failed 4.2/4.3 update, or hardware failure.

When you use Priiloader (with updates blocked) and Bootmii, that means only a hardware failure can brick it.

PS: The reason that 4.2+ updates remove brick protection is because Nintendo designed them to do just that, and nothing else (excluding bricking region-converted Korean Wii's). They didn't add new features or bug fixes.

So updating to sys menu 4.3 should be fine unless nintendo's update fails, correct? Honestly, I just installed bootmii to give me a bit of brick protection. I don't really care about homebrew or anything. Now it seems I am jumping in over my head.

So, install priiloader and update the ios's with your guide. Seems risky? A noob playing with fire, ya know?

Those two updates are the most dangerous released. If they don't fail, your Wii won't brick, but you will lose all brick protection and extra features.
I have put a lot of time and effort into making my guide safe. I will even walk you through it if you want.

Ok, I hear ya. Please walk me through it. As scary as it seems, your guide is a bit difficult to get.

To start, I have a 4gb non sdhc that I used for bootmii. I also have a 2gb mini. Heard those don't work?

Secondly, I can install priiloader via bannerbomb. What do I need to do prior to install and what do I need to look for during install?

(THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING PATIENT!!! : ) )
