game control question

Hey guys,

I just paid a person $25 from craigslist to soft mod my Wii...

Everything seems to be there that I've found most people have done to there wii's ....homebrew, and the dvd player channel, and the emulators...usb loader for external HD...

My system is 4.3u....not sure if thats needed for my question.

Ok question: what game controller am I supposed to use to play the emulators?

The wiimote only works in 2% of the games that are downloaded into the sd as emulators/roms

Please forgive me...I'm a newb!

I have a wired game controller, looks like the N64 controller.

Do I need to use this controller for the emulators? or is there a configuration that I need to do to use the wiimote for these emulators?

I can navigate through the menus in the emulators using the wiimote, but actual game play the wiimote doesn't work correctly. Buttons don't match up and and direction pad does not work.

Sorry guys I know I'm pathetic. I did search and search but can't seem to find related problems like mine.

Try changing some stuff in the emulators its control settings first. If there's no succes, try playing with the Nunchuck or Classic Controller (has to be bought separately) connected to the Wii Remote.

You can use a gamecube controller,Wiimote, or even a classic controller. It sounds like you need to configure your wiimote for the problem you are having.

The Wii remote should work to some capacity in just about every emulator. What controllers are supported relies on the developer. For most that use the Wii remote as the main controller you have to turn it sideways like when you play VC games. Any particular emulator you need help with controls on? I use most and my current project has me trying out the last couple I have yet to try.

Not necessarily true. Some controllers aren't supported by some emulators. Like the official Neopop Wii only supports GC pads.

Here on Wiibrew.org there is a list of emulators, if you click on one it will tell you what is compatible with that emulator.

Most of all the game control problems is in the N64 emulator, in fact most the games/roms there are half-loads....does that make sense? I mean they don't work correctly, freez up or blank screens.

For example the 'San Francisco Rush - 2049'...great shot em up or race type game. Wiimote hardly does any good in that game. But the bigger problem is the game itself is really glitchy looking..

Should I somehow reload the N64 emulator, in hopes to have game control or at least have the games work?

Need to buy the correct controller to, I don't have one I can plug into the wiimote.

Searched here more on the N64 emulator.....looks like it is in beta yet so I wont expect perfection yet...lol

The Nintendo 64 emulator just isn't any good. The Wii can handle a Nintendo 64, but programmers have to spend time and effort in such an application. I believe the team doesn't update Wii64 anymore, so we probably will never see perfect emulation for the N64, like we have with NES, SNES and Genesis/MegaDrive. And N64 games are in no way compatible with the Wii Remote. The Wii Remote doesn't have as much buttons as the N64 controller does.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it isn't any good. Ocarina of Time works great for me. As of July 2010 (or last year :)), Wii64 was still being worked on. It just wasn't the app being focused on by the developers. This is taken from their site:

Yes, OK. It's not like it's totally drama, some games run great, but it hasn't reached the stage of decent emulation yet. :p
Like I said, perfect emulation of N64 on Wii? It'll probably never happen unless somebody else releases an emulator out of nowhere.
I'm going to stick to my original N64. Even the Virtual Console has its flaws here and there. Ocarina of Time has freezed three times on me in the Spirit Temple, Majora's Mask has sound lagging issues at the bank, and the characters in Mario Kart 64 look totally jagged up.

Well I took your guys suggestions and all is well now;)

I bought a couple Nintendo classic controllers and also went into the control area in each emulator to setup the buttons and life is good!

As far as the N64 emulator.....it has serious potential and would recommend it to everyone, even in its beta state.
