Why soft Mod Over a Hard mod?

Hello all, Yes I am new to the Wii, And wiihacks. I have Done some pretty Intensive Re-search on a soft mod and Using the solderless wii mod chip.Just let me say I bought my kids the Wii for chiristmas This year Cause I had learned of the Savey stuff u can do with them. Other then just installing homebrew.. Now I resarched the Home Brew bootmi Method,, But I learned U can brick Your wii. (I DIDNT BRICK MINE) I am Not afraid to try this way. But it just seems like a Pain u cant update without installing this.. then u have to installl that..Now recetnly My friend had Got a solderless chip And Put it in wiith in a half hour,,,And now has tons of games on a USB HD.. And he has 4.3 and DIDNT Need a game to install Home brew on it. I guess because of the Chip... Was just curious to see the Opinions of others on this matter.

    hardmod costs ££ (or $$)
    softmod is free.

Both can do the same things (usbloading with 2 of the modchips available).

The benefits for softmodding are that you can run games from USB HDD. To play region locked games on a hardmod you cannot update past 4.1 as 4.2 will lock this option. However this does not affect the softmod - only the hardmod; so you can still play different region games.

You can USB HD on a hardmod too as davepm alluded to -- Sundriver or WODE (but as you're saying, this involves yet MORE $$$).

Money seems to be the biggest issue, now that I have read all of the previous post. Plus, it's just more fun to hack it instead of add hardware. Softmodding gives you more stuff to play with too.

Hardmodded is not for everyone... Hardware Removal and Modifying Scare some People!!!

Softmodding is out of sight out of mind (so to speak)... You are not changing anything on the wii Except the INSIDES!!!!

I have not personally Hardmodded any wii (YET!!) but i think overall you are correct Shift_Lock Personal Preference!

If $$$ was not option i would still softmod, just the ease of things!!!
