Ripping to/Running from Wiiflow - System Update?

I softmodded a friend's 4.1U Wii several months back. He just purchased Rock Band 3 and when he inserts the disc, he's getting the System Update graphic in the Disc Channel. I never installed Preloader and blocked disc updates. Fortunately, he was smart enough not to run the update and called me. I'm aware of alot of the issues with instrument controllers that I might have to resolve, but before I get to that point, I want to just get the game to run. Is it safe to have him rip the game into WiiFlow and play it from there? Keeping in mind that this is an unscrubbed retail disc, will the system menu update still try to run? I've read other posts that say that USB loaders only rip the game portion of the disc and not the updates, but I was hoping to get a definitive answer from an expert.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I have BootMii installed as boot2 on his wii but he misplaced the NAND backup we did when I first softmodded the console. I'll have him rip and run it and see if it works. If not, I'll have him bring it over, do a NAND backup and then start tinkering with Hermes cios and anything else I need to get it to work properly.

    Thanks.

So once I get the game to boot, I'm anticipating two issues:

    1) black screen freeze after intro.

    2) instruments not working

Is the solution to #1 to update cios249? The wii in question is currently at 14.

And for #2, I found a guide about updating to Hermes ios222 here: http://www.wiihacks.com/tutorial-arc...t-work-25.html . This guide is old and I'm not sure if I can trust it though. Is there any new information that anyone can point me to? Is there anything specific to RB3 instruments that I need to be aware of?

Just install cios 222/223 and select it in the options for the game to use that ios - Hermes v4 installer - put the file in the apps folder on your sd card and run the installer from HBC
