    Wiikey and Softmod

I am getting my bricked Wii repaired and would be getting 4.1U system menu installed. It is a Japanese console and came with Wiikey v1 chip installed. My queries are as follow:

1.) Would Wiikey v1 work with 4.1U system menu?
2.) Can I install softmod even though I have Wiikey v1 installed?
3.) Which Wiikey firmware would you suggest 1.9s or 1.99 beta?
4.) What benefits does softmod give over Wiikey?
5.) Although most of my games are NTSC-U, I also have a few PAL and NTSC-J games and hence would change region from time to time. Would softmod make it any easier to change the region?

PS: I have been away from the latest developments for more than 2 years and have been going through numerous posts to update my knowledge base. But trying to absorb so all the details have actually left me confused. I would appreciate any help I can get regarding the 5 questions mentioned above.

    1) It should do yes; 4.3 however is a homebrew/chip buster stay away from it.
    2) Yes.
    3) I don't use Wiikey I'm not too familiar with it however it's always probably best to stick to the stable versions - don't go to beta yet unless it has an option you really need.
    4) The benefits for softmodding are that you can run games from USB HDD. To play region locked games on a hardmod you cannot update past 4.1 as 4.2 will lock this option. However this does not affect the softmod - only the hardmod; so you can still play different region games.
    5) I think 4 helps answer 5; as long as you don't update past 4.1 then you don't need the softmod (unless you want to run games from USB.

I don't think I would be updating the system menu from 4.1U to a higher version that too when it stops the HBC and modchip to perform the desired function. Nintendo does not have a support center in India, hence if any thing goes wrong while updating, I would be left with a bricked Wii again. As though I have sent my console to UK for NAND flashing as there is no repair center here.

I would love to use a USB HDD and hence install the softmod along with Wiikey.

Thanks for your reply CJSS. I am now counting on Bad_Ad84 to repair my console so that I can enjoy all my favourite games that I have not played for past 2+ years.
