New Wii, PreMod, 4.3u already - can I update the shop?

I've searched but I can't find an answer to this specific question.

New Wii and it came with v4.3u. I understand I shouldn't upgrade to this version, but I'm already on it so no choice there.

I plan to softmod (after getting a copy of Lego Indiana Jones) but I would like to access the Wii Shop until then. When I try to do so it tells me it needs to upgrade.

Is this safe to do? Is 4.3u the latest version of the firmware so all it's doing is upgrading the shop (which should be okay, I would think)? Or if I upgrade will I just be screwing myself until the softmod process gets updated?

Also, when I visit the BootMii page the only download link is for HackMii. I assume this is the same thing? All the anti-bricking posts mention BootMii. I just want to make sure I'm good before I proceed.

    Thanks

The hackmii installer includes bootmii, homebrew channel, and dvdx. Once you run the hackmii installer you can choose what you want installed.

There was actually another System Menu released shortly after 4.3 (dubbed "4.3b"). There weren't any significant changes. It basicly just reinstalled 4.3.
My point is that it might update the Shopping Channel, or (if you have 4.3) it might update your System Menu. It won't make softmodding any harder, but I suggest you avoid updating through Nintendo. It's really up to you.

DVDX was actually discontinued. I believe the official story is someone dropped a Snapple bottle (or was it a cap?) on it. Search the hackmii blog for the whole thing.

But, since I have not modded yet, upgrading via Nintendo shouldn't really matter. AFTER modding, then yes, I'll make a point of avoiding it.

And thanks, mrkazador, for the info on HackMii. It's kind of what I figured but good to know.

There is a risk of bricking, should the update fail. It is very rare though. As long as you have a stable power supply and there isn't a thunderstorm, you should be fine updating. Since you haven't modded your Wii, Nintendo would still repair it if that happenned.

I just think you should be aware of risks.
