mIOS risks? Not even sure if it will work...

I checked the wii drive database site, and it says I have a 50/50 shot at a d3-2 or a d3 drive. I would love to play gamecube backups from disc. If I follow Stomp's guide to patch the mIOS and use neogamma to load burned discs, is there a potential problem? What I mean is, if I have the d3-2 drive that can't play dvdr's, will following the guide and trying mess up anything?
    thanks in advance...

You could all ways try a Wii game backup on a disc, just to see if your Wii will read a backup DVD. Then if your sure your Wii can play backup discs, you can install the cMIOS.

I am such a knucklehead. That didn't even cross my mind. OK, will do. Sorry for a stupid question, and thanks for the answer I needed.
