    Upgrading bits and bobs

    Evening Guys,

So my Wii is softmoded and I'm happy but in the interest of keeping things up to date what do you guys do?

Do you keep a note of each version number and store it somewhere so you can check? Heck I cannot remember what I installed yesterday - it works so it must be good.

What about updating? I've got preloader 0.4 (I think it's 0.4 and not 4.0 etc) - I read 0.5 is out but is updating a simple process? It's quite a scary thing to do when you are naive and new like me :-) LOL. WHy not 0.6Beta, does that upgrade easy?

I'm going to play about over the weekend. I have boot2 so I assume that as long as I backed up my NANDS (all these new words) - then I can restore from a backup if something goes terribly wrong.

Please feel free to correct my mistakes - heck as I teacher I do it all the time :-)

    GJE

Priiloader v.5 has a nasty bug and can brick you if you don't already have the internet setup and configured for use on the Wii. If you have BootMii/boot2 and a NAND backup, you're (relatively) all but bullet-proof. Usually when folks have softmodded their Wii awhile ago, we refer them to this thread. Betas are exactly that with Priiloader and generally users are discouraged from trying them. BootMii/boot2 gives you somewhat of a license to "feel free," lol.

Thanks guys. Most of the answers are what I was expecting. I've just re-read the FAQ and it's a great document. So much to learn and so little time.

The 4.2E Wii I have (now 4.1E) was modded several moons ago - but I've just re-softmoded it and it updated itself and works fine.

I see in the FAQ they say going back a version is bad. :-( Silly me - I thought it would be the best thing to do as 4.1E seems to be the better version.

    Again thanks for your time,

    GJE

4.1 is the best version as 4.2 and 4.3 were only released to stop homebrew.
