Questions re: boot2 wii and updates

I have been given the opprotunity to trade with a guy here at work. I currently have bootmii as IOS. New drive unable to read dvdr (D3-2?) His is a launch day Wii. dvdr and boot2 compatible. I think. I bannerbombed it for him, at 4.2, to play emulators. But I never did any cIOS stuff at all. Strictly HBC, and old-school emulators. At that time, it installed as boot2. I did not keep the nand backup.
He has updated whenever it calls for it, most recently to 4.3 with 'The Michael Jackson Experience'.
At this point, is boot2 gone? Did 'N' patch the exploit for it with one of the updates? I would love to play gamecube backups from dvd-r, and have a boot2 system for if I brick. What are your opinions?

You'd simply have to re-run the HackMii installer to restore the boot2 install.

yes, its all gone. I suggest finding yourself a copy of LEGO Indiana Jones or that Yu-Gi-Oh game you need and redo the mod from scratch. The only good thing about it is, you have previously installed bootmii/boot2 successfully, so i wouldn't stress to much about that part.

It depends on what version of boot2 was on the system at the time Bootmii was installed. If Bootmii was installed to boot2 v4 then it wasn't overwritten by the update. If bootmii was installed to boot2 v2 or v3 then it would be overwritten and removed.

it depends on if you installed bootmii as boot2 on boot2v3 (or older) or v4. If on v3 or older, then yes, it's gone. If on v4, it should still be there

Thanks, I continue to learn! If he were to put bootmii on the root of the sd card I guess he would find out if it is still there.

Oh yeah, I always forget the drive light flash.

Ok. So I found out that AFTER the most recent update, it still loaded to the bootmii menu(as it always had). So boot2 is still there, right? Just need to exploit with lego or ssbb to get the hbc back and go from there? Should I virginize my wii before I give it to him or just update to 4.3? His wife does NOT want a modded wii. Thanks for the help. Usually I find what I need on this site, but this time I wanted opinions of the experienced because I don't know boot2.

    yes, bootmii is still there
you don't have to use a game since it has boot2
updating will kill most (if not all) of the softmods
