Reinstalling priiloader with priiloader already installed on my Wii won't brick it?

    No it won't.

If you already have it the only reason to reinstall would be to update it...but...if you install a new system menu priiloader will be removed....so you NEED to reinstall it.
    Damn I suck!!!!

That's assuming that I move from 4.2u to 4.1u, correct? If I stay and mod with System Menu 4.2 will I then need to remove it and then reinstall it? Again, I apologize if I sound like a total moron.

Let me list this out as to avoid confusing myself:

(Please point me in the right direction if I'm screwing up)(Again, I used the gbatemp guide of December 2009 to mod my Wii exactly a year ago. It's currently at 4.2u, but my stupidly updating with Super Mario Galaxy 2 disk update deleted my soft mods only leaving HBC and Priiloader - I think)

    1. I start out from "Softmods with HOMEBREW CHANNEL installed" from the "Softmod ANY Wii" guide since I already have a working HBC installed and follow all the steps in that box.

    2. Follow Step 2-Chapter 2 and install BootMii as Boot2, omitting installing HBC as it's already installed.

    3. Follow Step 3-Chapter 2 and make a NAND backup.

    4. Follow Step 1-Chapter 3 and install Wads

    5. Follow Step 2-Chapter 3 and Install System Menu 4.1 (but apparently I don't have to)

    6. Follow Step 3-Chapter 3 and Install Priiloader

    - This is where my question comes in - if I stay with System Menu 4.2 will it be safe for me to install priiloader without uninstalling the old one?

    7. Follow chapter 3 - is that totally necessary? Or is it just a bunch of apps that I'll rarely use?

    Anyway, much thanks!

Yes chapter three is completley necessary....I don't know why people think it can be skipped.

Yeah all that sounds good to me and I already told you no it won't brick if you reinstall it when it's already installed.

I recommend downgrading to 4.1 then installing priiloader like the guide says (or you can stay at 4.2....it doesn't matter).

Just follow the guide carefully and you will be fine.
    Damn I suck!!!!

Ok so I did as per everyones suggestion and remodded my with with the "Softmod ANY Wii" guide.

But whenever I put in Donkey Kong Country Returns I still get that "Wii System Update" thing on my disk channel screen.

I enabled "Block Disk Updates", and "Block Online Updates" on the Priiloader, but the "Wii System Update" thing still comes up!

Is it possible that I'm not saving it correctly? After I installed priiloader it froze as the guide suggested that it might, so I held the reset button, as the instructions stated, and then the screen started to flicker, but I had no idea how to "Boot Wii" and I panicked and unplugged the Wii. Once I plugged it in and started it it went straight to the "Multi-Mod Manager" and from there I followed the directions to "Manage Priiloader, Edit Priiloader Hacks, enable needed hacks - enabling "Block Disk Updates" and "Block Online Updates," thinking that Priiloader was installed.

    Perhaps Priiloader didn't install?

From the instructions for installing Priiloader:
"Read the warning- Hold B Press +/A to install
After priiloader installs, it may give error or freeze- this is ok
Hold reset and boot wii while holding reset- priiloader will load"

When it says "hold reset and boot wii while holding reset" what does "boot wii" mean? And how do I do that while holding the reset button?

How do I know if Priiloader was installed? On my modded Wii from last year Priiloader would just load up before the "Health Screen Warning + A button" screen. Now it's not there anymore.

    Thanks!

It means - Press power- as soon as you press it - hold reset button down and you should be taken to the priiloader dashboard

Okay, I pressed power, I held the reset button, and sure enough priiloader was installed. Thanks Nutsy26.

But when I went to "System Menu Hacks" to turn off disk and internet updates, a screen came up saying:

"Failed to mount FAT device. Can't find hacks.ini on NAND"

    What does that mean exactly?

    What should I do?

All I want to do is turn off the disk updates and automatic updates.

there should be a hacks.ini on the root of your sd card
verify that one's there. If it is there and priiloader can't read it, try formatting the card (after backing up what's on there)
See the Thanks button over there?

All if this is taken care of when following Maui's guide previously linked.
It takes me 20min to softmod a wii with this guide and that includes the nand dump.
All of these questions about which steps to follow has to have taken longer than the guide itself.
Every step is necessary (except Darkcorp) and will have solved ALL of your problems. Good luck.
