4.3u Red soft modded wii USB HDD issues

Let me start by saying thanks to everyone for all your time and hard work.

I have had a day 1 Wii for a while now. It was soft modded and worked great. but it overheated and had video issues. Well I decide to buy a new one. I have followed the softmod 4.3u guide and many other guides here. The issue I am having is the HDD seem to be going to sleep when used with the new wii. This never happened with my other wii. Could a IOS cause this? ( I have tried 249 rev 19 and 20) currently using configurable usb loader. I have tried Hermes V4 and V5. I can load games from the HDD, but they freeze after playing for about 15 minutes. The HDD is a Seagate 1TB Free agent usb powered. I have disabled sleep mode on the drive. Like I said this drive works great with the older wii? I am think it is either a software issue or the newer wiis can support the power draw? Any help would be much appreciated.

I am going to try a self powered drive when I get one.

    Thanks,

Edit Tried self powered HDD same issues. A few games will run ok, but any that stop pulling data from the HDD for any period of time seem to lose connection to the HDD. These are mostly music games (GH, Rockband, Mic games). New super Mario Bros. freezes near end of level. I hook HDD back up to old wii and it works fine.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Anyone got any suggestions? Have they made any major hardware modifications in the newer wii's?
