Old Wii with mod chip and Wii games on hard drive

Sorry for the newbie question but can games be played on the wii on an external usb hard drive saved as iso? I bought a wii modded already but don't know which modd but it's running version 3.4u I know it's been a while with this mod from what I was told is there any upgrading that needs to be done. I've read about downgrading but I'd imagine that's for soft mods. I've seen the youtube video two part about have wads. Any answers much appreciated.

Yes I didn't like the youtube video that's why I came here to ask. Can the homebrew still be done with the modchip? I see that to get the usb hard drive to work you need the homebrew installed. Is there step by step instruction to the hbc hackmii site
