Can softmod prevent retail real games from working? I think my Wii DVD is broken

I am wondering if its at all possible for a retail copy of a game to not work because I have softmodded?

I have red 4.3U Wii and followed 4.3 softmod guide in tutorials.

My Wii is less than a week old and when I try to play New Super Mario that came with it I get an error on level 3 every time I try to play. Other games I have work fine. I lent the game to my buddy and it works fine on his unmodded Wii.

I ripped the game off the same disk onto my USB hard drive and now I can play past level 3 with no issues.

Should I take this Wii back and get a new one? Seems like a hardware issue if the softmod did not cause it.

Edit: I followed the Nintendo troubleshooting and it says I should call them and see what my options are and that this indicates a system issue. As this is less than a week old if i need to exchange I will just take it back to the retail store.

First of all, softmods can't prevent games from working

I don't see why you softmodded it if you plan to load from the original discs anyway, wasn't it to load backups so your originals are safe?
I don't really see the problem in playing off the harddrive.

Taking it back might not work because if nintendo finds out you softmodded it, you'll have to pay quite a lot to get it fixed (almost the price of a new wii)

Thanks for the info, I figured the softmod could not cause this, so it must be a hardware issue since the disk works fine on my buddies Wii.

I did mod so I can make backups and use homebrew apps, but if there is a problem with the system I still want to get it fixed, I just bought it last week brand new. May as well get it fixed before I get in too deep with the mods.

I'm not going to send it to N. I plan to just take it back to the bigbox store I bought it from and exchange it for another one, do you see any possible problems with this?

It shouldn't be a problem, especially if you are just swapping it out for another one. They probably won't even want any information from you other than the original receipt. That's what I would do even if they did ask for my info, what are they going to do?

So it seems that the softmod was actually causing this issue. I removed DarkCorp 1.1 I could play the game fine with no errors.

There is some info in the Dark Corp readme about this issue with "New Super Mario Bros Wii" and says its caused by piracy protection. I did not think this would apply to a retail game disk but maybe it does. has anyone else had this experience with a retail disk of New Super Mario Bros Wii and DarkCorp 1.1?

I did not think I actually needed DarkCorp but after uninstalling it now USB Configurable Loader will not recognize my hard drive. Ill be doing some more research on this when I get home but if anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

You didn't mention darkcorp in your original post. Most of the time we assume that people did not do that part. Darkcorp seems to cause more problems than the one it solves. Most people who install it end up here trying to figure out what is wrong with their softmod. Glad to hear that your problem is solved for that game! You do not need darkcorp. The removal probably took out your cios needed for your loader. You most likely need to run the softmod any wii guide again to get everything back to where it should be. You could do a syscheck and just fix the ones that you think need fixing, but running the guide again will be the most effective way.

And yet, another reason why DarkCorp FAILS. Don't install it; it causes more trouble than it will ''solve''.
