Some confussion regarding cios 222/223 etc.

Well I just soft modded my wii today but havent gotten to give it a try just yet as I have to go buy an external HDD tomorrow but Ive been reading through some posts that seem to suggest I need to install ios 222/223 etc to get usbloader to work.

I followed mauifrogs tutorial which seems to suggest I already have thoes ios's installed but Im really not sure.

Do I need to install them or are they already present? also on the ios install guide it says that you need to use certain versions of hermes to install for different versions of usbloader, Im a little confused about that as I dont even know which version of USB loader was installed with the packs provided on the tutorial.

If someone could advise me on what I need to do (if anything) I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Check to see if the modpack has what ios bases they are.
you can run a SysCheck (link in my signature) to see what ios's are installed

Great, thanks! Ill check it as soon as I get home, fingers crossed its all ready to go.

Also, a somewhat unrelated question, how do I make use of apps? Do they just run off of the sd card or do they install? Is there a good tutorial for that? (perhaps I just missed it)

I know, I know, newbie questions but Im trying to learn

applications go in SD (or usb) /apps/folder name/boot.dol (the boot.dol is the executable, the other files are description and a pic)
if you want channels/forwarders for applications on the wii menu, you'll have to install a wad. Forwarders take up less space, but you'll need the SD (or usb hdd) in/attached to run the application.

ahh Ok, I think Im starting to understand, so wad's are applications that are installed directly to the wii, can wads also be installed on HDD or would you have to use a forwarder for that to work?

This leads me to another question, in that tutorial mauifrog gives the option to enable the hbc and load forwarder, which I didnt do because I initially thought that meant it would boot straight to that when I turned the wii on. However HBC and the forwarder are visible in the wii menu so does that mean they were installed as wads and therefore the forwarder option is not necissary?

ios's can come in wad form, channels can, forwaders can. You can store the wads on a sd card or hdd, but you'll install them to the wii.
You can run the system off of the sd card or usb hdd with sneek and uneek respectively.

not quite getting your last question

My last question is regarding the priiloader step where you can enable forwarding for hbc and other things, but if I understand correctly forwarding is used to display the wii channel but run the app off of extrnal meida (SD HDD), but the channels are functional from the wii menu already and I did not install the forwarder through priiloader

    aight, I gotcha now.
If you set priiloader to load installed file, it'll automatically load the application you want at startup. If you set it to load hbc, it'll load hbc on startup.
If you install the forwarder(s)/channel(s), you can run the application from the wii menu
    in short, you got it.
If you want the wii to automatically load an application or hbc, set it up so in priiloader. If you want to run the applications from the wii menu, then don't worry about that step.
