Us Just got a Wii already softmodded, some tips on HomeBrew?

I just traded for a Wii that was already soft modded. It seems to me the guy who did the softmod used Gecko OS. I've read a little about it and haven't seem to find much. My questions are, in order to mod any Wii, do you have to install HomeBrew channel or are there other alternatives (gecko OS)? I searched the Wii for the HomeBrew channel and do not see it on my Wii. I got a external 160GB hard drive with it, along with some burned games (about 30). Along with a 1GB SD Lexar memory card. Should I just start clean and delete everything? I've read the the guide for making my Wii a Virgin, but i'm unable to run the apps on the Wii. Is that because there is no homebrew channel? Thanks for the help!

Things I know about the Wii:

    Version 4.2U
Channels - Disc, USB Loader GX, Ocarina Cheat Engine, Gecko OS 1.9.3.1, NeoGamma (Has Wii BackUp Channel Icon), NeoGamma (has a blue disc on the channel)

Most of the apps you want to run are launched from the homebrew channel. You can download the hackmii installer and install the homebrew channel. It would probably be a good idea to post up a syscheck so we can see where you stand on the mods. No reason to "undo" everything, just tweak as necessary.

Ok, i'm going to be installing it here in a few minutes. It seems every channel I go into loads up and then goes to a black screen and does nothing else. Maybe i'm doing something wrong. I soft modded a Wii about a month ago with no problems ( I did all the soft modding following the guides here) so maybe that's where i'm getting confused. This Wii was already soft modded and i'm unfamiliar with the mod.

You could always run through the mod any guide in my sig anyhow, it's not going to hurt anything. Then you will be familiar with what you have.

Tried installing HackMii, when loading up I get an error "This installer can NOT continue!
There is no known vulnerable IOS installed on this Wii etc. Is there a certain file I didn't install first?

*EDIT* found the files I need and installing now using the guide:
