Us Modified wii and netflix - not the standard question

    Hello,

This will be a bit complicated to explain I think but here goes...

I have a chip in my wii that allows me to use "backed up" discs that I own. I got this chip and installed it about three years ago, I can't remember what it's called or what version it is (maybe It doesn't matter) but I can tell you I don't have any special menus on my wii to do special tasks like disc bypass (I think it's called).

Now I want to get the streaming netflix but I'm stuck with a firmware from 3.5 years ago and cannot update my wii else it will brick (I assume). What are my options here?

    Thanks so much,
    TabooCrime

It would be best to follow a softmodding guide like Softmod ANY wii. That would give you brick protection, block System Menu updates, update the Shopping Channel, install recent IOS's for games and channels, and more. After that you could download the Netflix Channel, and everything else on this site will work for you.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. It appears I need a SD card, which I don't have.

Buy a Nintendo 2GB Sandisk card. It is roughly $10, it's fully compatible (not all cards are), and it will have plenty of room for a NAND backup (essential).
Since your Wii is so old you will be able to install Bootmii as boot2, which is a VERY good thing. You will be almost completely protected from bricks.
