    what mod do I have?

    Hi,

since I'm a total newbie on this field - as far as I know I have a modded Wii, but not quite sure if soft or hard modded - how to detect which one?

Also, if I get the unfamous #001: error with "ERROR 001, unauthorized device has been detected" - if I understand correctly I shall update a piece of software on the modded Wii - which one and where from, and can you please just point me to some URL with stepbystep instructions, so that I can ask questions more specifically?

    wbr,

    l.

To detect if you have a softmod, you should run a sysCheck and extract it to the root of your SD Card. Open the SD Card Menu (icon to the left of the Wii-button), let the appliaction run and post the results here.

If you don't have the SD Card Menu, you have a firmware installed that's less than 4.0. If so, extract this sysCheck to your SD Card, and go to Wii Settings > Channels > SD Card.

With the results, we can see whether it's softmodded or not. I can't tell if you have a modchip installed or not, but if the sysCheck says you don't have a softmod installed, you have a modchip as the error #001 can't occur without a mod.

To fix error #001, follow mauifrog's Softmod ANY Wii guide in the Recommended Guides section. This'll softmod your Wii and fix error #001, and allow you to run back-ups.

    Hi,

    thanks for the quick reply.

I have downloaded the file you pointed me to, extracted it and put its content to an empty SD disk:

    :/tmp/sys# rar x -kb /home/test/Downloads/sysCheck\ +\ Bannerbomb.rar

    RAR 3.93 Copyright (c) 1993-2010 Alexander Roshal 15 Mar 2010
Shareware version Type RAR -? for help

    Extracting from /home/test/Downloads/sysCheck + Bannerbomb.rar

    Extracting boot.dol OK
    Creating private OK
    Creating private/wii OK
    Creating private/wii/title OK
    Creating private/wii/title/aktn OK
    Extracting private/wii/title/aktn/content.bin OK
    All OK
    :/tmp/sys#

now, If I put that SD card into the Wii, then go through:

Wii Options --> Data Management --> Channels --> SD Card

...then the Wii totally locks up, and all I can do is a poweroff/poweron cycle.

Where did I do what wrong?

Are you sure you've downloaded the correct pack?
If you don't mind, go to Wii Settings and write down your firmware version found at the upper-right corner.

    3.0 - 3.4: sysCheck + Bannerbomb (v1).rar (Wii-icon at bottom-left corner > Data Management > Channels > SD Card

    4.0 - 4.2: sysCheck + Bannerbomb.rar (SD Card-icon at bottom-left corner)

    Hi,

At "Wii Options" at the menu "Wii System Settings 1" on the top right it says Ver. 3.4E

Now I have downloaded the right sysCheck, it seems to run.

It has generated a CSV file with the following content:

Your Wii is not softmodded (evern though it has BootMii, you can't call it a softmod because you don't have any cIOS).
Your Wii has a modchip, or else error #001 could not've occured.

It doesn't have bootmii. IOS254 is a stub.

That is, I still need to follow mauifrog's guide mentioned above and the error will go away?
