Extreme N00b wants to virginize PAL Wii 3.3E

    Hi All

I am truly truly sorry about having to post this thread but I am in desperate need of some help.

I recently purchased (what I thought was a factory setting) Wii from a friend only to discover that is has been "Softmodded". My friend has informed me that he used this Wii Softmodding Guide for Dummies to achieve this. I believe this uses the "Bannerbomb" exploit.

Having only just received the Wii myself I have noticed that I can't play any newer games without being asked to update the firmware, which having read this forum I am not prepared to risk.

The Wii curently has the Homebrew channel, Backup launcher, USB Loader and a Gamecube Backup Launcher.

I really just want a normal, factory setting "virgin" Wii that I can update to the required firmware for playing retail games.

I would really really appreciate anybody's help in this regard. I have read this forum over and over and am still not entirely certain what I should be doing. I have an SD card but no internet connectivity for the Wii.

    Can anybody help me?

Well, I would ALWAYS convince someone to keep a wii softmodded, as it is a very valuable tool. If you want to keep your softmod, follow THIS guide to update your system (perhaps skipping step 1 if you still have the homebrew channel) However, if you cannot be convinced otherwise, THIS guide should help you to virginize.

If you really want to kill your softmod, just accept an update from Nintendo. There is a guide on this site for re-virginizing your wii, but it is not really recommended to do that. You could just do a little updating to you current mod and still be able to enjoy all the benefits of having a modded wii.

Hi Guys, thank you very much for responding so quickly. A few people have told me to leave it softmodded. In that case, and given that this community knowns far better than I, I will do. I don't have the internet adapter for the Wii so is there any way of getting completely up to date without it?

The guide I linked has all .wad files i believe, so you won't need the internet, but I am not too sure. You don't need an adapter if you have wifi, but that might be what you meant.

I really hate being such a n00b at this and I apologise if i'm just going round in circles here. I do have WiFi but I'm not sure of how to connect my Wii to my WiFi network, am I missing something here?

The update guide looks like it has a lot of the required.was files although Step 4 refers to installing "Waninkoko's Firmware Updater v4.1" and from reading the site I thought that required an internet connection. Again, I could be wrong.

Yes! I forgot that, sorry. It does, and I would recommend using it.

From your wii menu, go into the options at the bottom left corner of the main menu. Click Wii Settings, go to the second page, and click internet. From here, choose one of the connections to create a new one. As long as you know your wifi settings, you can create a wireless connection. It will be safe to have your wii connected to the internet with a soft mod, but turn off wiiconnect24 and follow EVERY step in the guide, most importantly priiloader.

Ha ha, I can't believe I didn't know the Wii had WiFi, awful. I have been reading up on Priiloader, but it says not to install it if on 3.3 or 3.4. I'm currently on 3.3E. I assume however that this won't matter as after the update I'll be on 4.1...?

Precisely! It's OK that you didn't know that. You JUST got the Wii, I understand. You should be ok following that guide. If you do not feel comfortable with it, you can use THIS guide, ignoring the HBC installation again. I'm not gonna lie, that is the guide I was thinking about when I linked you the other guide. Either way, you should be OK.
