Question Wii with GC2-D2c drive chip - Options

My Wii has either a GC2-D2C or GC2-DMS drive chip in it. I strictly want
to play backups. Not interested in any of the other wonder things these
Wii's can do. No online playing or home brew stuff what so ever. What would
be my best solderless solution? I'm leaning towards WODE or DriveKey or ..... I'm pretty techinical, so updating a chip would be no issue for me if that would be neccesary to keep it updated. I appreciate any advice.

    Thanks.

I know you are not in the "market" for homebrew options, but USB loading is still very workable and could cost you less then discs. When your option is buying a mod-chip and discs VS buying a USB HDD or flash drive, you need to debate what you want to spend the money on. Post in the INTRODUCTION section to receive links to guides that may help you out in this, as everyone is asked to make said introduction.

That wii chip should be able to play backups just by softmodding. No need to buy a mod chip.

I thought about softmodding the box, but it sounds like such a hassle. You have to fix it everytime there an Wii update. Is that the case with WODE also? I am a newbie with the Wii console. I'm looking more of a permanent and simple solution with little maintenance. I will pay for that if I have to. I like the idea of the WODE because I can use my 1TB usb drive to store backups of the current games I own on and play them, not damaging my original disk. I chipped my ps2 8 years and have never looked back. I still runs perfect this very day. Unfortunately, I know nothing about WODE or Drivekey, that's why I posted here. Is WODE a reliable product?

Well to be fair, all of the things you just said you wanted to do with the wode you can do for free. As far as upkeep goes, once you block updates, you can stay on your system menu without hassle. Sometimes, when "N" releases a new update, some "IOS" files need to be updated, but only to play some games, and you may never even have to do that. You will always be able to play your games regardless of system menu.

good call! Use the softmod any wii link in my signature and you will be happy. It's very simple and pretty quick.
