No, the question was about there being new protections on black wiis that cause a brick upon loading a game.

Which there isn't. The original poster seems clues up enough about the capabilitys of White wiis and was checking the black wii is no different.

Also, a semi brick really isn't a type of brick.

A brick is a device that will not boot and isn't repairable without manually flashing the chip. A semi brick doesn't fall into this, Regardless of what people have decided to call it.

I seriously am reading about newer games themself having some sort of protection which will cause a brick, and not a black Wii - guess I read the post in a wrong way... :/

    EDIT:
Okay, then that means full bricks and error #003 are not bricks?
They can be fixed without flashing the chip.

A proper 003 can't be fixed without reflashing a NAND backup. A full brick is a wii without bootmii and doesn't boot up. Those are both bricks.

A wii with bootmii is never bricked, just missing it's system menu or what ever else is wrong with it.

Brick has a proper definition. It's just ignored around the wii scene it seems.

I specialise in repairing bricked equipment, including wiis.

Thank you everyone so much for all of your help, it is greatly appreciated! I probably seem very green to all of you, but we'll put it this way. The last game systems I had were the original Nintendo, and I also had a Sega Game Gear many moons ago. Now I have kids, and they really want the wii, so I've been researching and saving and finally can get one for them for Christmas lol. Like I said, we're just on a really tight budget, and I'd rather spend $150 on a hard drive to hold who knows how many games, than to purchase 3 games for that same $150. And I am just very afraid of bricking the system because I know I can't return it to the store, and I can't afford to buy another one or even send it to Nintendo and hope they'll fix it for me lol. Everyone here has been so very helpful. Thank you so much, it's greatly appreciated!!!!!

Yes, that is bad. You do know that we do not support piracy around here right? You really should read the rules.

I never said that I was going to be illegally downloading the games. My friend who used to mod wiis said that he would load some games on the drive for me once I had the system and purchased the HDD. He understands that when you're a family of 4 and have to survive off of about $1100 a month, you can't afford to be purchasing $50 games all of the time. We will purchase games as we can, but am I really supposed to hand over a system to two kids with only wii sports and wii sports resort? He is also going to sell me some used games, and provide me backups of games that we cannot afford right now, but plan to purchase from him as our financial position allows us to.

Also, just so you all know (not that I have to or want to defend myself), I have never downloaded anything without purchasing it. I've not downloaded a song, a movie, a file, a picture without either purchasing it, or having the owner's permission.
