I think that for $5 worth of wii points, I would skip the call. If you do call though, play dumb and don't mention the softmod. I have never called or dealt with Nintendo myself so I have no clue how they might handle your situation. You may just have to give them some info from your wii and prove that you did buy the game, then (if you're lucky) maybe they will just gift you 500 points to replace it. Good luck on that if you try!

I also think that a call to Nintendo is not worth it. It is easier to find a ROM and use the emulator.

That would be piracy.... unless he owns the game of course.

Why would it be piracy? He has bought the game, but he isn't able to download it again, so he has the legal right to download a ROM -- at least in my country.

You caught me before I edited my post. But, that might be on the gray side of things. He bought the VC game and not the original NES console game where the Roms are generated from.

Yes, but I think the law is wide enough to allow it.
Besides, if downloading a ROM would be illegal, he could try to find a WAD somewhere.

You miss the point. Stick to the topic at hand here guys. And bandicoot...you might want to read this (specifically the part about what you guys are talking about).
    Damn I suck!!!!

Okay, then I made a horrible mistake here. I'll stick to this the next time.

Thanks for informing me on this.

I'm very confused on why he can't download it.

I bought a used Wii. I have tortured this Wii by updating, bricking, following the NAND formating guide, reinstalling NANDS from previous backups and anything else you can image that would remove any trace of the game. I bought my first VC game the other day and shorty after I restored my Wii to a previous state from a NAND backup. I went into the Shop Channel and downloaded the game again with no problem and at no cost. I even downloaded some games again at no cost that the previous owner had purchased and downloaded.

My point is, VC is tied to a Wii ID number and not a downloaded file/ticket. I would call Nintendo as suggested and have them straighten out the mess.
