Where do I go - the very basics upwards

I've read a lot here. I have taken-apart my Wii and hooked-up my Wiikey Fusion. I softmodded as best I could and now show - what was version 4.2 a version 4.1 Wii that is made in the USA so it is was a v 4.2U and now a v 4.1?

I have questions. I checked the FAQs and used search - my questions and problems are not there. I'll try to be succinct and specific without over-doing it.

    1) How do I know if I have completely softmodded my Wii so it will work to play DVD games

    2) Can I "re-softmod" my Wii if I think I missed something?

    3) Are the softmod guides up-to-date as per the latest information and wads etc - for making most games work? I see guides dated over a year ago with over 400 pages of posts. Is there new-stuff hidden in those pages - or is the post updated as time dictates and the old post-date still there.

    4) Do I softmod with my Wiikey Fusion hooked-up or do I softmod with the Wii as it was factory released?

    5) What if I softmod with the Wiikey hooked-up - if question 4 is to not do so?

    6) Softmodding will or will-not play backup discs without a hardware device such as my Wiikey Fusion? I realize this may have been answered; but I see ambiguity in that the posts imply softmodding, taking-out stubs etc and then playing a game - it never says when or links to how to hook-up your modchip.

    7) I have hooked-up my Wiikey Fusion with and without the SD extension. I ONLY want to play DVD/ISO backups. I've had them working - and now NOTHING plays. I'm stuck and extremely frustrated. Is there a ground-up guide - like from the basics of having a Wii and a Wiikey Fusion in hand - nothing touched - to getting a fully working Wii that can play games as new as ?????? [Kirby, Star Wars etc]

    8) What is the newest game that could be called an "up-to" game where all games including it - and all games before it - should work once the Wii is softmodded properly and the Wiikey Fusion is installed and updated properly?

    9) Why won't my Wiikey Fusion update to v1.4 - I cannot get this to work!?

I think that is about all for now. I realize this is extensive - but I haven't found any ground-up specific WIIKEY FUSION & softmodding information anywhere at the site.

All the stuff I've read is either a year old - maybe updated??? - and does not have me working with a playable unit - after days of reading and trying to make it work.

    HEEEeeeeelp!

    Thanks,
    gtatix

    1) How do I know if I have completely softmodded my Wii so it will work to play DVD games Well, as long as you have a cIOS (e.g. cIOS249 rev17) installed and a back-up launcher, you should be ready to go

    2) Can I "re-softmod" my Wii if I think I missed something? Sure, use Guide: Softmod ANY wii

    3) Are the softmod guides up-to-date as per the latest information and wads etc - for making most games work? I see guides dated over a year ago with over 400 pages of posts. Is there new-stuff hidden in those pages - or is the post updated as time dictates and the old post-date still there. The stickied guides should be up to date

    4) Do I softmod with my Wiikey Fusion hooked-up or do I softmod with the Wii as it was factory released? Doesn't matter, you can softmod a hardmodded wii

It depends. Newer wii's have another DVD drive, so newer wii's can't play back-up discs, but they can load games using a USB Loader.

    7) I have hooked-up my Wiikey Fusion with and without the SD extension. I ONLY want to play DVD/ISO backups. I've had them working - and now NOTHING plays. I'm stuck and extremely frustrated. 8) What is the newest game that could be called an "up-to" game where all games including it - and all games before it - should work once the Wii is softmodded properly and the Wiikey Fusion is installed and updated properly? I do not understand this question

    9) Why won't my Wiikey Fusion update to v1.4 - I cannot get this to work!?

    1. As long as you have a working and up-to-date cIOS, most games should work without any fixes.
    2. Yes. You can easily re-softmod your Wii, because everything will be overwritten. Do not ''virginize'' your Wii first, and then softmod again!
    3. It may be that some guides include an old method of getting a cIOS on your Wii, but all are still quite up-to-date.
    4. Softmodding a Wii can be done with a hardmod installed. Nothing to worry about.
    5. It will not hurt the softmod or hardmod. End of the story.
    6. A softmodded Wii doesn't require a hardmod to play back-ups.
    7. Follow mauifrog's ANY Softmod Guide and you will have the latest and greatest cIOS. Most games, including Kirby's Epic Yarn, should work perfectly via NeoGamma. Some might need a special way to make the game work properly.
    8. Do not update your Wii-system from a disc or online! It will eliminate the ability to play back-ups! Games only depend on a cIOS if you are using back-up loaders, which are all up-to-date in mauifrog's guide.
    9. I do not know. When you have softmodded your Wii, there is no need for your WiiKey.

    Hope this answers your questions.
