Well I took the advice from the old timers (or at least super poster / mods) on this site and I went ahead and bought Indy Jones and softmodded my 4.3e Wii successfully. I say successfully as I backed up one of my games and it worked on the little DVR channel that was installed like clockwork. Could even play the saved game that was in the Wii already with no issues. Happy days. I used this method...
Again due to advice I have bought an external 2.5" HDD and am in the process of figuring out hwo I need to get that to work - in fact if anyone has THE link, feel free to post it for me but am reading 3 guides linked in the above post trying to work out which one is right... Still a little confused how to go about this TBH...
The main question I have though is whether I should leave the Wii on 4.1 or upgrade it. My sons Fav game in the world at the moment is Wii Party. It requires 4.3e and whikle I suspect it will work on the HDD when I rip it from my original disk to the HDD, I thought the question was a valid one.
I will not have the auto loading to the HDD enabled, if this is relevant. I need the main screen as the kids need to know what to do differently when putting in a disk or using the HDD, although advice does seem to suggest ripping all the current games off their disks to the loader. Still, not yet knowing how to setup the HDD, I need a little help ther... so the questions are...
1 - Which is the best guide to setup a External HDD after using http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html to mod the Wii (Yes I know there are 2 in that post, consider this noob over cautious.
2 - Should I update the Wii from 4.1 ? Or should I rip Wii Party to the HDD which should then not need 4.3e I read ?
Thanks for all the help so far and in anticipation of some more sage advice.

Dont update the wii all system menus above 4.1 were designed to purely kill HB.
For the HDD you can follow this guide for FAT32 which in my op is better than wbfs http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...g-playing.html

hahahah tremendous reply thank you... you also answered the question of the very reason I returned to this post now... to ask what I should use, FAT32, FAT64, NTFS, WBFS etc etc... I will stick with the drive as FAT32 and try and work out from the guide how to split the files too as >4gb will not work. LOLed when I imaged a disk then fell at the 1st hurdle of moving it to the HDD

You should find the split option in WiiBackup Managers settings..

all looking great... superb guides on here if you follow them carefully and dont rush things... Yes its a little scary but doable
Only thing I currently cannot get to work is cosmetic. I cannot get the cover pictures to show. The downloader suggests it is "success" / getting them but they do not display with the show all covers option int he little window... some figureing out there and I am (and quite unbelievingly) actually "done" on the basics of modding my Wii thanks to all here.
I think I do need to figure out how to rip from my disks still though too....
Kinda hooked with it now though as in hindsight it was an enjoyable item.
