    Full-Brick Wii Help

    Hey guys.

So a very long time ago, a friend of mine had a WiiKey installed in his launch day Wii.
Unfortunately, he had no understanding of regional locks and updated his NTSC Wii with an update from a different region. Now, every time the Wii boots up it displays the opera browser error. This Wii has never been online before so the original firmware update is low.

Recently i purchased a SaveMii dongle so i could boot into recovery and update with an original Super Mario Galaxy 2 update, but with no success. I have also tried a back-up copy of SMG2 with autoboot enabled, and still no success. When the Wii boots up with the dongle placed within the Slot-B memory card slot, i get just a black screen. From my understanding, no firmware number should display because the firmware is lower than 3.0. On the dongle, both red and green indicators light up so i know it is properly entering recovery mode. Also, when the Wii boots up, the drive only flashes once (i've read that this information matters)

Also, there are no homebrews on this drive, no twilight hacks, nothing. this is a pretty virgin Wii aside from the WiiKey. When the opera error page comes up, the wii controller still functions properly. I can still power on the wii from the controller, turn it off, etc.

I am not sure what else i can do to try and save this Wii. From everything that i have read, i believe it is possible to recover from this but possibly missing a couple of steps or pieces to the puzzle.

Any help you guys can offer me would be greatly appreciated

Did you read this thread yet? Semi-Brick, system settings locked, Opera error.

I just read the thread you sent me. My question is, if the Wii wont read the update from Super Mario Galaxy 2, will it read a 4.0 update from New Super Mario Brothers instead? I am asking this because i do not own a copy of New Super Mario Brothers so i will have to obtain one.

I just wanted to make sure you read the thread in case you missed something. Super Mario Galaxy 2 should work though. What happens after the Opera error? Black screen? Do you have the Wiikey set to autoboot a game and allow disc updates?

I don't have much more time, I have a wedding to get to but please look into all that and post. I will check back in on this thread later. Someone else may stop by to help in the meantime.

He would be on 4.3E now right? So I don't think an update any other disk will work.

    opera_error.jpg

I just took this photo for some assistance. This is the error message that pops up when the Wii is booted normally without the SaveMii dongle. This is the only screen that displays but i have Wiimote functionality... just can not click the links or press any buttons.

As for the autoboot set with the WiiKey, i am not sure. I researched my chip and found that it supports autoboot, but that is all that i was able to find. I set an autoboot on my back up of SMG2 using Wii Autoboot Creator, but still nothing.
