    Issue with HDD safe ejection?

Hello guys, I recently purchased a new WD mybook elite 1.5tb for my WII backups and also my multimedia backups. I noticed that with the WII it is impossible to safely eject the drive? For those familiar with the mybook elite there is also a power button located on the back of the HDD but when I plug it into the wii, nothing happens when I press it.

I don't want to needlessly wear out my shiney new drive. Is there anyway to safely eject the HDD when its connected to the wii?

Well, to safely eject it, you need to make sure there are no applications reading from it, or writing to it. Basically, this comes down to returning to the wii menu every time and powering off after that and not just powering off.

yeah thats what I have been doing is to make sure im back at the wii menu before i turn off my system. However, are there any other ways of safetly turning off the HDD possibly before i turn off the wii? And has any of you experiences malfunctioning HDD's after some usage?

I personally wouldn't worry about it. I have a WD mybook essential and one of the nice things about it is the way it powers up and turns off with the Wii. I have used the drive for about a year on the Wii and have never experienced any form of corruption. I turn my Wii and drive off mid-game, from the USB loader, from the homebrew channel, pretty much whenever I feel like it. I hardly ever return to the menu before I turn the Wii off and I have never had any problems. I'm not saying to be as careless as me if you are uncomfortable doing so but I don't think it's that big of an issue. You power your PC up and down with hard drives connected right?

I have a WD Mybook as well. I always go to the system menu to turn my wii and HD off. Well, most of the time. My HD has no problems.
