Wink Upgrading a softmodded 4.2e Wii to 4.3e

    Hey,

I have a softmodded with with version 4.2e firmware installed, i was just wondering how do i upgrade my wii to 4.3e (to play the latest games etc) without doing the online upgrade?

Is there a way to do this, or do i upgrade via nintendo and mod using the 4.3e guide?

    Cheers

There is no reason to update to 4.3. There are people on this site who are on 3.2 and can play every game out there since games are not system menu dependant but ios dependant. In fact I would suggest installing priiloader to block online and disc updates to avoid having to re-softmod for no reason.

Like me for example. I am still on 3.2E and games are just working fine. Really, there is absoluttely no need to update.

The only real benefit with an update (and this can be to 4.1 --- no reason to go beyond this) would be if you want SDHC compatibility.

Ok, so what, if any IOS, should i install, to allow support of new games? Or should i extract them out of the disc image and use wad manager to install them?

I do have a priiloader installed as well as bootmii.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Many thanks

The cios plays the backups through the loaders, so no ios revisions required for that.
If you are playing from original disk, there is a thread "what ios games need to run" in the guides section, a problematic games section, and guides for specific games posted whenever they are released and info is determined.

From what I've come to understand the only new good thing with the 4.3 update is iOS58 which newer homebrew apps are starting to use for USB support. You can get this through DOP-Mii or you can do an offline installation (Wii not connected to Wifi) with NUSD without upgrading the system menu.

I would install cios38rev17 and go from there. If you have any specific games that we do not have guides for (Like NSMB, Metroid: Other M....) We can troubleshoot from there. Installing rev17 should allow you to run just about everyting.
