No need to upgrade just put the hacks.ini on your SD card and run Priiloader. In Priiloader choose hack.ini setting and enable block all disc updates. Then save your settings and you'll be good to go.

That's not what your first post nor thread title says. Did you bypass the Introduction section? This is where an initial poster should make a quick hello post.

I apologize as I'm new to posting. I just want to play NBA JAM and wanted to know if a 4.2U->4.3 upgrade via disc would brick my system.

I no longer use my softmod nor have an SD on hand and only want to play NBA JAM without bricking. I appreciate anyone's help, thanks.

You only need to install priiloader and then use hacks.ini to disable disc updates. You need a SD card for that, but you could just borrow one from a friend or something.
Awesome sig picture does not work

Let me get this straight: you're willing to sacrifice your hard work in softmodding your Wii strictly for the "game of the day" mentality? The proper information to make this a non-issue was given to you by another poster. You're too tight to spring $10 @ Wally World? Don't take this wrong, but your query lacks depth of thought of value versus consequences to these actions...

He doesn't want your opinion or what would be optimal...

His question was, will doing a disc update from 4.0 to 4.3 brick his Wii...

The answer is, yes, it's possible, depending on what/if certain IOS stubs are installed and what risky software you installed on the Wii during the time it was being used while it was softmodded. In addition, there are probably ways to brick the wii that no one has encountered yet, but could potentially render your wii useless.

I understand you are a moderator of this forum, but try to remember, it's the visitors to this website that keep you on the map, he asked a simple question and he doesn't deserve to be spoken down to or be talked to in a condescending way... Just my 2 cents.

Yes, polzhan is indeed correct, it could brick your wii, or it could not. Ironic thing is, that to check this, you'd still need a SD card, or a USB storage device.
