moving save game from the original to usb hd copy

I have original Zelda TP game. I would prefer to play it from usb hd as a backup as it will speedup loading.

My question is: if I am playing now from the original disc will I be able to use the same savegame slots when I will switch to backup copy on hdd?

Yes, it will automatically use the savegame on your Wii.
