you need to follow all of the 4.1 softmod guide, then use DVD-R.

did you Identify your Wii ?
put in your wii serial no. (sticker on the wiis back)
if you got a D4 or D3-v2 chip your wii won't play any disc other than retail wii or gc games

    you got any error code/msg?

edit: and neogamma says 249rev17 in the lower right(?) corner ?

How new is your wii? If it's less than a year old it may have the new DVD drive in it which can't read burned DVD discs no matter what you do. The only way to play backups will be from a USB hard drive

The Wii has a RVL-001(EUR) model number and is produced for the European market. The copyright year is 2006.
There is a 100% chance the chipset is GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip.
    Compatible Wii modchips/kits:
    • FlatMii - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2
    • WODE Jukebox - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2
    • SunDriver - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2
    • Wiikey Fusion - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2, D4
    • Replace with old DVD-drive model - D3-2, D4
neogamma says 249rev17 DVD READ ERROR (1167)

looks like two days wasted! I TAKE IT THERES NO POINT IN CONTINUING!

sure just that you need a usb drive. modding a wii is never wasted time. stream media to your wii, mp3/avi etc via wiimc, online radio streams, youtube etc.
get one which is on this list
    USB Drive Compatibility List

for now you can also run a game from a usb thumbdrive or your sd card, have a look at the Fat32 loading guide linked below

    good luck
