    DVD-R and the WII laser

Thanks to the help I got from people here I can now play backup games on my Wii.

I have one final question though. I read somewhere that burnable DVDs can hurt the Wii's laser. Does this apply to both DVD-R and DVD+R? Or is this just BS?

DVD+R make your wii laser work harder to read the data so stay away from them and stick with Minus's.......

Any form of burnt media will make laser work harder regardless of system/drive. DVD-Rs work on the wii without doing anything but burning to them and DVD+Rs you have to change the booktype first in order to make them work.

Technically, you don't have to set booktype (flag: DVD-ROM), but that is a prudent choice if your burner supports it. Nevertheless, DVD-R is supposed to be easier on the DVD drive than DVD+R is.

I challenge anyone in the WiiHacks community to provide evidence that reading from a DVD-R disk damages the Wii's optical drive over an extended period of time, sans normal wear and tear (either you sent your Wii into NUS or you're a certified repair technician and you dissembled your Wii personally and replaced the drive and the Wii started to read disks normally again.)

People have been trying to sell the idea that different media will cause optical drive damage since the PlayStation 2 and I have yet to witness or find anyone I know that has experienced any issues.

Not trying to cause trouble, I just frown upon baseless misinformation.
