Do i need an Ethernet cable? its on Wi-Fi at the moment
No! wi fi should be fine.
But what cios have you just installed?

Looks to me rev 9. You wanted to install rev 17 - If you had gone back and done those steps in the same guide you would have that. Trucha bug restorer and cios install!!

Also looking back at that guide you followed it does say its out of date and to follow a LINK to a updated version which are the same steps that are in the softmod guide that I tried to tell you to re do.

No no.. I have been following this guide http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html as I said in my first post. I fixed my error code issue by following the first steps out of the outdated guide as someone in another thread said they had fixed it that way.. seems to be working OK now.. I always follow the instructions to a T.. I have updated to 4.1 now and will continue to try and get my backups running

    Thanks for your reply anyway

you said that you used steps 1-7 out of that outdated guide - Which in theory if you had just re done the steps in the softmod guide
    3. GET A CIOS

    a) Go to Homebrew channel and run Trucha Bug Restorer, load IOS36, press 1, read the warnings then select 'downgrade IOS15', select to load IOS from SD card then let it do its job, keep an eye on what it is doing and make sure you select 'load from sd card' when it asks & don't get any errors.

    b) Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, this time select to load IOS15 on first screen using dpad left/right, then select the IOS36 menu & install patched (select 'yes' on all 3 patches) IOS36 to slot 36, again using IOS from SD card.

    c) Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, load IOS36 and this time select restore IOS15.

    d) Run cIOS38 r17 installer, select IOS36 as the one it should use and then select wad install.

If your Homebrew Channel flips upside down then continue with the guide and when completed reinstall the homebrew channel.
You would have fixed your problem without even leaving the guide....

I did follow the guide! and I was getting error code 2011 when using the custom firmware installer! thats when I started this thread and while I was waiting for a reply I found someone else who had this error code using this tutorial and he said following the first 7 steps in that guide stopped the error.

Again thanks for your help, I had read all steps of the tutorial and followed the videos too but in the video they didn't get the error code I was having..

I did buy the console pre owned so maybe someone else could have messed with it first, Anyway it's working great now, I have successfully backed up The New Super Mario Bros to my External HDD.

    Thanks again
