I think my wii is semi-bricked.. unsure though

Alright, I had my wii soft-modded a few weeks ago, and had priiloader installed, aswell as bootmii as a boot 2. My brother used the wii last night with his friend, and since the, The wii wont start up unless theres an SD card inserted. Apparently he worried and tried formatting the wii, and i think that may have caused the issue, but im not sure. When the SD card isnt in, the LED goes green, and the wii looks like its trying to load, but nothing shows up, it just stays a black screen.
I've reinstalled the Indiana pwns exploit and hombrew channel and everything. Even with bootmii, if the SD cards not in, it wont load up.
    Please help

Sorry your post isnt completely clear!!!!

Bootmii if installed as boot2 will load up when you start the wii. The needed files for this are on the sd card in a folder called bootmii. Normally with this folder you either rename it or back it up to your computer for safe keeping. Have you done a nand backup?

What happens if you go to priloader and try to get to the system menu from there?

    Sorry.
The wii starts, but only the green LED shows up. It doesnt boot to bootmii, the system menu, or anything, it just stays black. But, If there is an SD card in there, It loads perfectly. I got the NAND backup from the computer, and restored it, but it still does the same thing. Is it possible that when my brother formatted the wii system memory it caused some damage?

did you go into priloader settings - you get into priloader setting by holing down reset whilst powering on - Check what autoboot is set to..

So basically, when the SD card is in, the wii works normally, and without, the screen just stays black? And using your Nand back-up did not solve the issue?

Well, probably because he his system menu IOS is not present. In this case, it can boot using a SD card, using cboot2. I once had the same problem.

Hows that happened by formatting the wii?
Would it be best to do a sys check to see if it is present?
I know re installing the system menu will not do any harm but if op was to do a sys check then more people can learn from this if it is a case of a missing system ios or not instead of jumping ahead when possibly that isnt the case ...
