Question Burning backups: what brand of DVD-R?

i have an external HDD to play my backups, but just recently, my aunt told me about her portable HDD losing all the files when she dropped it. she had to put everything back in it, lucky she had all her files in CD backups.

i have original games that i dare not open again as part of my collection (quite a few STILL, around 17 games lol but expensive = MUST NOT BE DAMAGED!), and thinking maybe i can burn .iso backups for use in case my HDD messes up, and to lend my 3 year old little brother when he plays (he cannot read yet, thus a DVD seems to be like the most probable idea, he just has to put it in and click on 1 channel. i dare not give him the originals, he scratches all discs in the house within 3 uses [from experience w/ his ps2 disks]- he plays mario party, mario kart, etc.. those kid friendly games.)

question: will any kind of dvd-r work? there's a shop here that carries all kinds of CDs imaginable. expensive DVDs, unbranded DVDs, DVDs with cartoon characters, etc. just wondering whether i could just use the cheap ones or the more expensive ones.

again no piracy in mind, i just want to keep my collection safe and my backups backed-up with physical copies. yes i am that paranoid. i have no intention of pirating my mere 17 games, lol.

    Verbatim,Taiyo Yuden ,Ritek G05 DVD-R

Or just rip them to your hdd and save the iso(s) on another hdd or on your pc...you can convert them to .wbfs files that way they ll take less space

have a look here, here is a short guide.
use verbatim -R (not the life series, rubbish) at 2x or 4x speed. that should work.
to get the .iso from your originals, dump your games to harddrive by using your favorite loader or any dumping app /cleanrip or similar.

    good luck saving your discs

ok so i tried it out with the smallest game that i have: Wii Play.
the .wbfs turned out to be 0.9GB, and when i restored it into an .iso it became 4GB? is that really how its supposed to work or am i doing something wrong?

that is how it works 4.3Gb for a burnable iso filled with tons of 0s. the gamepartition itself is, depending on the game, much smaller.

edit: but as mentioned you could convert the games to the .wbfs files or have them like that and copy them to a drive OR use a dvd as file storage putting some smaller games on one dvd.

Sony dvd r- work ok for disc.

Yes when you put your games onto the hdd they get scrubbed down to that size.
So no you havent done anything wrong all wii games when unscrubbed are 4.38gb except dual layers.
Just burn that iso onto disc.

If you want to store the iso on the computer you can scrub the iso using wii scrubber then rar it up and it will reduce in size.

Have a browse through this thread http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...scrubbing.html
