Some Simple Newbies Questions about titling a thread

Hey sup, im just getting into this softmodwii etc etc, and as many people asked and tell, i wanna know some basics, so here i go.

so. cios 249 its a cios 36 but installed as a 249 number?

i softmoded my wii with a tutorial i found on youtube, and wii worked like charm with 0 errors or problems, but mmm, yeah i softmodded but what exactly i did, like what did i did that for.. heres what i did:

i installed trucha bug restorer ( first of , what the fudge its trucha bug restorer and what does it do? ), then i selected IOS36 (Wjats Exactly IOS36 for?), then i downgraded IOS15 ( what did i did this for? and whats is IOS15?) Then i selected IOS15, then i entered to IOS36 menu then i installed Patched IOS36 ( wat for? ), then i used again IOS36 and then i restored IOS15.

After that i used Any Tittle Deleter and deleted ios 222,223,249 and 250, ( what did i deleted those and what does it do each one of those? )

then i used custom ios installer 2.0 and used IOS36 then i patched some things on it, and i was like .__. i supposed it installed CIOS249 , wich i read CIOS249 enable some lunchers and back ups etc etc etc.

so after all those question i still have some doubts like, what is ios 33,34,35,55,64,222,223,250 and all those for?

so, if i go to any tittle deleter, wich ones i can delete and wich ones i cant?

i have been seen people using CIOS33 and 34 and some other, why they use that, instead of using 249, why do i need those ones?


there are soooo many IOS AND CIOS that confuse me like hell D:


im using neogamma with cios 249, now i wonder, why 249? is it possible to use other cios or cios? what changes or what?


i got a wii ntsc/u, can i play wii games from nsc/j using neogamma? will this brick my wii?

Wow...there is so much fail in here I don't know where to begin. From the sound of it like BiShOpBlAiZe said your lucky your wii still works. There are two major glaring questions that stand out to me.

Why would you delete your cIOSs? That's what you need to launch backup games. Did the guide you followed actually have you install them just to delete them or is that something you did on your own?

How are you using 249 if you deleted it?

I would like to help you more but wow is all I can say. You have some major homework to do reading over the board and other internet resources like wiibrew. I would recommend re-hacking your wii following one of the recommended guides on this site and ask questions as they arise.

You delete the stubs not the cios. Then you can use ios 36 or 236 to install the cios's

The version of 249 you have installed does indeed have elements of ios36 (called a base ios) included plus some extra data to improve and add extra operability. (later versions can use different ios as a base but these maybe too advanced for your stage just yet)

Trucha Bug Restorer (or TBR) allows the installation of items that are not supposed to be able to be installed

I dont know why your tutorial instructed you do delete those, maybe to be sure that you had no stubs (nintendo adds these to prevent piracy, they are just empty ios with nothing in them)
your other question on anytitledeleter was which ios can i uninstall please DO NOT EVER DELETE AN IOS LOWER THAN 200 it can seriously damage your wii and could brick it.

Other answers to your questions are
IOS - each IOS adds different things to your wii such as usb2, wiispeak support, wii camera etc etc. each ios is like a small operating system and allows the wii to do its job.

CIOS - is a modified ios, 249 is the most common, they usually take the best parts of an IOS (the base, 36 in your situation) add extra functionality to it and place it into a slot i.e 249

different IOS - you asked about people using different IOS, well certain CIOS installers can use a different base IOS other than 36 ( I do not use IOS36 as a base in any of my CIOS) also different games use different ios to run, you need not worry to much about all this just yet, in time all this will become apparent.

neogamma uses only 249 there is other loaders that can use multilpe ios (not at same time though) look up and read about these loaders. Wiiflow (I use this one), USBloader gx and finally configurable USB loader.

Using out of region games (pal or jap games on your wii) is possible but remember to never update from those game discs, this will hurt your wii also.

Now you have found wiihacks it is best you use the tutorials found on this site, the other tutorials on the web are not supported here, if you use a tutorial from here you will recieve the best support for your any problems you may have

Duh..I didn't even think of stubs. Too early, too confused by the op, and not enough coffee. I guess I should have re-read the post and I might have caught that. :)

well thank for all your support, and all, and ill take a look at the introduction section, but but im wondering one last thing since i still confussed with this.

im downloading alot of Game Isos from a confiable page, but one or some of those are ntsc/j and my wii is ntsc/u, i can use neogamma to play them right? so if the game ask me to update, and i say no, will i sitll be able to play it?
