    Priiloader-- Safety?

    Greetings,

I have installed HBC 1.08 on a 4.2U Wii. I'm very much enjoying access to certain homebrew apps, and look forward to trying more things. I want to take all reasonable precautions to prevent my Wii from bricking, and to help give myself options if it ever does. I have read that Priiloader is an excellent and vital utility to install, but I have a concern: my understanding is that it either puts a cIOS or modified the current IOS (forgive me if I have my acronyms wrong; still learning) for the Wii, and I have read several articles stating that this is extremely dangerous. So, I have three questions:

    1. Is priiloader safe to use? What risks are involved, and historically, have people had many problems?

    2. Is priiloader highly recommended to use?

    3. I have made a NAND backup and installed BootMii as IOS (could not as Boot2). What other methods should I take to protect myself?

    Thanks so much!

    in this order:

    1. It`s safe, never heard about someone bricking because of priiloader.
    2. Yes it`s highly recommended
    3. Priiloader can recover some bricks, imagine : you install a wad, there is happines all around, but when you go to the systmenu you only see a black screen. "oh no!! the black screen!! but hey, I got priiloader, I can boot HBC trough priiloader and uninstall the bad wad!!! tadaa you are unbricked
    4. Priiloader can block the disc ad online updates, so that`s extra protection

Not to mention the reason I installed it in the first place... bypassing the Health & Safety screen. That alone was the reason I didn't update to 4.1 from 3.2 (because starfall only worked on 3.2). No one should have a soft modded wii without both priiloader AND bootmii (as boot2 if able). Just too risky!

    1. Fairly safe, yes people have bricked from it (rarley).
    2.Yup
    3.Install Priiloader

Priiloader does not add a cIOS or modified IOS if that is what you are saying.

Follow WiiJohns guide to install and you should be fine.
    Damn I suck!!!!

Priiloader 0.4 is very safe. I have never read of anyone bricking on 0.4. Never read of anyone bricking on 0.3b.
v0.2 or maybee 0.1 caused a few bricks.
0.5 has caused a few bricks.

    You should install it.

    Thanks for the guidance/advice, everyone!

Mauifrog, based on your post, should I install Priiloader 0.4, not 0.5?

I would install 0.4. I have 0.5 installed without issue. If you read the priiloader page on google code, the issue seems to be related to not having network wii running. But, 0.4 works great, it just can't load the HBC without using a forwarder- which is simple to do.

I had issues booting hbc 1.0.8 with priiloader 0.4. With 0.5 the issue seems to be gone

Priiloader .5 works great on my 4.1U wii and will work on any system menu of these versions: 3.2, 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2
