when backing it up, not really much
but when you are putting your backup from sd to your wii you should make sure you don't get a power loss

If you lose power while a RESTORE is in progress (which A. ain't the subject of your thread; B. should only be attempted if BootMii is installed as boot2), you'll likely brick. As a restore with BootMii/boot2, likely "no biggie"; as an IOS install --- something you are specifically directed NOT to do --- you'll have a permanent brick.

you mean your bootmii? if it is installed as boot2 yes, otherwise no.
if your recovery fails during process it is likely that you corrupted files and won't be able to start your wii.
