I have a few questions and need my hand held. (BootMii / Shop Channel)

    Hello!

As per forum rules, I'll post my welcome post in a moment, but first I have some questions and need assistance with a few things. I always search for answers in advance, but they're always mixed and confusing at times, and when it comes to my Wii, I don't want to take a chance on which answer is right, or what to when it could cause harm in the long run. Thus, I technically need my hand held on a couple of issues.

First, I'd like to ask something in which I just experienced no more than a couple of minutes ago. I recently got around to installing BootMii as boot2 on my Wii, but I believe I might have did it incorrectly, or something is wrong. I panicked for a moment as well.

I downloaded the latest version of BootMii, and ran the installer. I believe I had 1 version of BootMii already installed, although it didn't come with a menu like I had recently seen. I had figured I wanted BootMii to run via boot2, so I could get the easy to access menu.

It said it installed successfully, so I exited the installer, and shutdown the Wii. When I booted the Wii up, the fancy easy access menu appears... But is frozen. This is where I began to panic, as the Wiimote wasn't recognizing the Wii was there, and the menu had icons, but not the "..." cursor below each icon like I believe it's suppose to have. Thankfully, pressing restart boots up the Wii and shows Nintendo's "Health and Safety" warning, and then proceeds to go to the main menu.
(Also, Restart is suppose to move the cursor when not using a WiiMote, which also worries me.)

It does however, work if I plug in a Gamecube Controller. However, it still worries me that the Wii controls for the cursor doesn't work, and that the Wiimote doesn't do jack.

My question is... What is the problem and how do I correct it? A hanging frozen screen is useless to me at this point, and is more of a burden than a tool. Can I run the uninstaller to attempt to remove it from boot2? Is there something I can do to fix it? Etc.

My 2nd question is that I require some assistance in installing the WiiShop Channel manually via a WAD. I read how WADs are installed, and a topic discussing this very issue... Yet again, I'd really like some personal assistance in doing this. The options of which IOS to install it with, etc, confuse me... and I don't want to run the WAD via the wrong settings and ruin my Wii.

I downloaded the Shine Shop Update 1.9 zip file. It contains IOS61 and the Wii Shop Channel. Do I install the IOS61 first? Do I simply install the Wii Shop Channel? I've read many ways on doing this, but it's still not clear to me.

For example, WAD Manager 1.7 asks which IOS to use. I was told IOS249, if available. It goes to the next screen asking for NAND Emulation, and shows "Disable" -- Yet, it hangs on this screen.

I know the community hates repeat questions and the such, but I honestly like to be 100% sure of what I'm doing before I'm doing it. As you can see, I can't even install BootMii to boot2 properly... How the heck am I expected to properly install a WAD file of the Wii Shop Channel? =P

I have basic understanding on how everything works, but I get paranoid as heck when messing with systems that can possibly brick, so making a post for assistance seems like my best option.

Any help is much appreciated, thank you in advance!

    Hi IceSage

Thanks for the welcome post. Of course, you could have always replied to my 2nd post that I made in the Introduction section shortly after located here:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/introduce-yo...rs-madams.html

But I guess this will do as well. (Although you got me all excited thinking your post was regarding my issue.)

Perhaps the reverse will happen and my answers will be revealed in the post I made in the Introductions forum? We shall dedicate today as Backwards Day, and all shall remember it as glorious.

Rather than a celebration of Backwards Day, I decided to respond to your questions here as I needed to read them within this thread. Welcome to Wiihacks.

    1. As you discovered, Bootmii does not use the WiiMote for navigation, one can either navigate using the console Power, Reset buttons to move the cursor or use that handy GameCube controller you already have. Once you have installed Bootmii and created your NAND backup. Copy the NAND and keys .bin files to somewhere safe. If you now delete the boot.elf file and Private folder from the SD card, your Wii will be able to boot normally and no longer directly into the bootmii menu.

    2. For Wii Shop channel v19 is the current version and you can install IOS61 and the Shopping Channel in either order as you would not try to access the Shopping Channel until both are installed.

    3. Wad Manager - if on running Wad Mgr, pne of the defaults is NOT IOS249, then you have not installed a cIOS and need to do so for Wad Manager to work. Please look at a softmod guide on this site that is correct for your Wii's system menu version.

Ah, it simply doesn't use the Wiimote? From what I read, I thought it did. The weird thing is I can't navigate with Power, Reset, etc. Pressing such buttons uses them as their function. (Pressing reset simply resets the system to the health and safety warnings.) However, the Gamecube remote works fine... So I guess it's installed fine as I can get it to work?

WAD Manager gives me the option of selecting IOS249, which I did. Will it still show this as an option even if I don't have IOS249 on my system? I tried selecting IOS249 from the WAD Manager's menu, and it went to the next screen and asked for NAND emulation. At this point, it would not let me do anything, and I had to manually turn off the Wii to exit out of it. This is where I'm seriously confused. The screen displayed says something like NAND Emulation - <disable>. However, it won't let me select anything. If I press A to continue, it does nothing. If I press HOME to exit the WAD Manager, it does nothing.

(Basically, I'm trying to use WAD Manager to install IOS61 and the Shop Channel.)

Thank you for your assistance thus far!

It does not sound as though IOS249 was one of your default settings and has not been installed. Have you followed a softmod guide to completion? If so, some steps may not have been successful. Please use the links in Stomp's welcome post and complete the softmod of your Wii. Any questions about the softmod guide are best asked and answered in the thread associated with your chosen guide. Good luck with your softmod.

I ran a system check and it says I have IOS249, and it's bound to BootMii. Would this cause a problem with WAD Manager? Also, perhaps I have the wrong IOS249 installed?

I'm about to go through that guide you just linked, however I'm not sure what steps to skip because that wasn't exactly how I setup my Wii for homebrew originally, and I'm not sure what exactly needs replaced, modified, and can be run safely.

I'll give it a shot though, try re-adding IOS249, and see if WAD Manager works after that.
