Help softmodding a black wii LU81 with 4.3u

I have searched around and havent yet found any specific answer for my box,I have quite a few questions and I am sorry in advance if some one else has asked this b4 and I just havent been able to find it.As it says in the subject I have a black wii the starting serial #'s are LU8123 and it was updated to 4.3u right after I got it,I got it from gamestop and it is used and has quite a few games installed on the hard drive like super mario 1-3,mega man, columns, earthworm jim,and a few other's but no homebrew or anything else that would tell me if it has been modded my brother who has a wii and has softmodded quite a few of them told me that he couldnt softmod mine because of the drive that is in it,all I really want to be able to do is play games from my jump drive or load games onto my hdd because i have kids and i dont want to have all of my games getting scratched up,any way i was wondering if i have to have an actual sd card or can i use my 2 and 4 gig jump drives.Thx u for any info on this

There's a 4.3 guide by mauifrog and yes you need a 2gb scandisc sd card as well as a copy of one of the games mentioned in the guide.

Its mainly used to install ios's that are missing or out of date. Don't mess with that just starting out. Since you're on 4.3 you have the latest ios's so there is no need. Just stick to the 4.3 guide and you'll be up and running.

Ok I went and bought a 2 gig sandisk sd card, card reader(4 my computer), and lego indiana jones game. The only thing that worries me is the big red letter saying Do not update to 4.3 4.3=Fail and what not, and also the fact that some one told me that any one with an LU70+ serial # that I couldnt softmod my wii any way not sure if that just meant backup dvd's or what, I just figure it is better off to be safe then sorry and to ask a few more questions before i proceed to the next step, also do i need a gamecube controler to do this or will the regular controler that came with it work. Thank you to any one that helps

The regular controller should work for all of it. I've never had to use a GC controller for anything. The reason 4.3 is fail is because it's only designed to kill homebrew. No other benefits really. Go through the guide and you'll be fine.

Yes. Install homebrew. That is how you install stuff that allows you to do other stuff... (HBC is pretty much the backbone of softmodding.)
