updating with softmod - may be stupid question

So I followed this guide to softmod my wii.

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html

I have system version 4.1u. Everything works great and I can install any homebrew like snes emulator and such. So thats all well and good. The only issue I have is now I cannot play my retail copy of new super mario bros. It tells me i need a system update when i pop the disk in. Ive read that if I update it i most likely will brick my wii so i dont want to do that. IS there any ways to update it without losing what ive done?

Any advice or suggestions would be helpful

    Thanks in advance.

Advice? Sure; you obviously "skipped" the part about Priiloader in the tutorial you cited.

I believe you meant "undermine," right?

Tristan is correct, but let's be honest --- unless you're hardmodded ONLY (in which case you'd not be following this guide), it's not really "optional." Even with BootMii/boot2, guess what --- you'd still have to restore your NAND or resoftmod to say the least (in terms of accepting a disc-based update or worse, an online update).
