Black screen launching games, USB Loader GX

I've been searching everywhere for an answer for this, but for the life of me, can't actually find the right one.

I'm running a Black Wii with sysmenu 4.2u. Softmodded it last night and everything went off without a hitch. Used this guide to do it: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...y-4-2-wii.html

Installed the most recent version of USB Loader GX. I'm able to launch it fine, even rip games. Problem is when I try to start any of them, it just black screens and a hard restart is required.

It's a very old thread and talks about using version 785 of USB Loader GX to fix the problem. However I would really rather not use such an old version, especially because I'm trying to get this to work with an NTFS drive, which needs at least version 900 from what I've read. The Drive is recognized, I can see my games, rip to it like I said, so I don't think it's a HDD compatibility thing either.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem yesterday. Make sure the usb drive you are using is set as a Primary drive, and not a logical one.

If the drive is setup as Logical, you can use a free partition program to change it.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately though it already is set to Primary. I also tried it with the Active flag, which unsurprisingly made no difference. :( It's also plugged into the correct USB port, closest one to the edge of the console.

try running the games through wii flow - the latest rev supports ntfs
Also tying a different loader will eliminate this as the problem if you still get the black screen.

x_x This is just getting irritating. I tried to use WiiFlow, but it's not seeing the USB drive at all for some reason, when selecting partition is just has WBFS0-WBFS9 and beyond. Interestingly, using USB Loader GX, I tried using different formats with a 2GB SanDisk USB drive and it had the same results, WBFS was successful though. So if all else fails, that would probably work on my 80GB hard drive that is currently the NTFS one that I've been using for this process. Though I'd really rather not. Even FAT32 would be better than that, it'd at least be usable elsewhere. :\

Also, when using WiiFlow I noticed that it has choices of what IOS to install with... I have no idea what I'm doing there... I Just used 249, as that's what was used by default for USB Loader as well.

So conclusion so far is that both programs claim NTFS support, but have yet to see anything but ye olde WBFS work. lol?

Also, when installing things, what determines which IOS file you should be using?

After installing WiiFlow last night, tried USB Loader GX today and now it doesn't see the HDD. Kinda think that you can't install more than one loader with the same IOS. Can someone explain how this works please?

You can install 2 or more loaders, it doenst matter... The ios249 is the most common one used to play backups, so if you can play any backup game you already have it... If wiiflow and usb loader gx dont work, there is something wrong with you HDD, did you check the compatibility list here on wiihacks? If so, try to format it again as FAT32 and use Wiiflow. The latest version (that is 2.1) supports it.. USB Loader GX has some weird problems with the black wii, that are not clarified yet, its better to avoid it for now (you can check more information about usb loader bricking black wii's here: Issue 1658 - usbloader-gui - Wii Brick after executing game through usbloader gx - Project Hosting on Google Code).

O.O Yikes. Thank you very much for that information. Would like really like to avoid a full brick, especially since I can't get BootMii installed as boot2. Gonna try uninstalling USB Loader GX, reinstalling WiiFlow, see if it then sees the NTFS. Otherwise hopefully it'll at least see FAT32, which would be acceptable for now at least, especially since Wii Backup Manger can split images up if they get too big anyway.

So as far as IOS's go, does WAD Manager automatically detect what IOS is appropriate for each WAD? Or does 249 just happen to be the default? And if so, how do I know what IOS to use when installing other WADs?

WAD Manager lets you choose with ios to load in the first screen... You can select ios249 for almost everything... Old ios249 versions has some problems with dual layer DVD's and USB peripherals (like rock band guitar or michophone, for example), if you dont need these you dont even have to install ios222 and ios223 (from Hermes)...

If your HDD is fat32 formatted try making a folder named wbfs, place your games there. Not sure about an ntfs formatted drive. Running the Hermes cios installer will not hurt. At least install 222 and 223.
