Black Screen on all games on HDD

So I previously had this set up working perfectly. It would play without issues. I'm not sure what has happened. I have added a few games to the hard drive. A few of those didn't work so I have played with the settings on individual game settings. Now I can't get any games to work at all.
I used dogeggs tut on softmodding to 4.1 and I am using usb loader gx. I did have a hard drive that said it was working but had issues on the compatibility list so I went and bought a new drive last night. I loaded it up overnight and it is doing the same thing. I can get it show the list of games through usb loader gx but once I pick a game the screen just goes black.
Ive read that maybe 3d images on the covers may be a problem. I don't know. Maybe I have messed with the settings but I have honestly spent hours and hours trying to get one game to work without success. What can I do?

It is set to primary and active. I used wbfs manager 3.0 to format it.

Did you follow Gen3SF's USB HD gaming setup/tutorial here?

I did use that tutorial. One sidetrack that I had was that I started to format the drive while using the disc management software. I stopped after a minute or so and figured it wasnt a problem as I was reformatting it with wbfs anyway. Could this be a problem?

connect hdd to pc, run a partition manager and delete all partitions and make sure the drive is set as primary and is active then format with wbfs manager

It is set to primary and active. It says that it is RAW. Not sure what that means though.

Edit: I created an new sd card in order to run a syscheck on it. When I loaded the new sd card the games worked. Strange but true. I am missing a number of different cover pictures now. Anyway I have the results from the syscheck:

Would you recommend upgrading anything or is there something that I am missing that I need? Thanks very much.

new update: many games still don't work. I get the black screen of death on most games. I'm not sure if this can be fixed by messing with the game settings or what. Any help would be appreciated.
