The only thing I can think of is to download one of the packs from our modding guides, place the GX folder into your sd/apps. Run HBC and install it. I am all out of ideas if your HDD is compatable, formatted and set correctly. Normaly replacing the .dol works.

Thanks I will try downloading one of the packs and see what happens. Would you suggest revirginizing the wii or resetting the factory settings and starting from scratch?

NO. Have you followed one of the guides here to mod your Wii? Dogeggs to be exact. Here. If so post a syscheck report and we will go from there. DopMii should be one of your homebrew apps. You run syscheck from there.

I thought that was going to be your response but I felt I had to ask. So here is what has happened. I tool my good hdd that I have connected to my 4.2 wii and connected it to my 4.1. Everything works fine. I just copied a game and it plays. That leads me to believe it's the hdd. (duh). This is my plan. I am going to reformat the 4.1 hdd and start from step 1. I will reference the dogeggs guide as you suggested during this process and let you know what happens. This is the second hdd that has given me trouble with this particular wii. The first was an identical to the one that works now the second (the one about to format) is a 1T. Any bits of advice before I start?
By the way thanks for the advice on my where did my isos go thread.

Having similar issue with USB loader getting exception ds1 occorred then some dumps and freeze nothing. I can run it as a forwarder from HBC but not as a channel. I did the other 4.2 mod, should I follow this one and re do it or is there something else I should do? Please help don't want kids getting into HBC with the other apps there thinking they might mess something up.

Did you do Messies guide? For 1 you need to Restore the trucha bug in ios36 - From Shadows guide
    Restoring The Bug Into IOS36
Pre-Note: If you have no working Wi-Fi Connection, you can try selecting 'Load iOS from SD Card' instead of 'Download from NUS'

    a) Load and Homebrew Channel and run DOP-Mii, on the IOS Selection Screen, select 'Install An iOS w/ fakesign' by pressing down on the d-pad then A on the wiimote. You should now be in the trucha bug restorer portion of DOP-Mii. Load IOS36 and select Downgrade IOS15. Each time it asks, select 'Download from NUS'
Make sure you get no errors. If Loading IOS36 doesn't work for this step, press B for no IOS reload when asked to load IOS. Although It should do these steps almost automatically, I'll just include the info.

    b) In the fakesign installation, once iOS15 is downgraded, it should begin patching iOS36.. Make sure to install the patched IOS36 with all these patches selected (Just Say Yes to All of the ones that come up)
    Install IOS to slot (36)
    Hash Check (trucha) Yes
    ES_Identify Yes
    NAND Permissions Yes

Then Press A on Install Patched IOS36. Again, everytime it asks, choose 'Download from NUS'

    c) On the same fakesign installation. Load IOS36 and select Restore IOS15. Each time it asks, select 'Download from NUS'

Once done, return to homebrew channel

    Update
I reformatted the hdd. Reloaded the usbloader gx and other hb files needed and nothing changed. Still the same freeze after about 30 seconds or so. Talked to wd and there is no way to turn of the sprial down. I checked the compatable hdd list and it says this hdd will work but I I think they are wrong. I will make one last attempt by running everything off an sd card and format the whole TB to wbfs. Atleast it's not the wii.

Can I say 1 thing. Try a different loader. Maybe WiiFlow.
Also try the files on a sd card instead of the hdd

Thank you, wiiflow worked without any problems. I guess I was so focused (frustrated) with the problem I never thought about just using something else.
In conclusion USB loader gx will not work with a wd passport essential se 1Tb.

Thanks, I am sure someone will test this to confirm this. If it holds true, great bit of info to know.
