There are two different routes that you can choose for modding your wii. You can either Hard-mod your wii with mod-chips or you can Soft-mod. We have a in-house trusted supplier for mod-chips Here, very trusted site, and great customer service. When and if you going to hard-mod your wii there is a great section here on the forum. Mod-Chip Section
On the Flip-Side you can soft-mod you wii using only a SD Card... The guides that are here have been tried and tested and do work... DON'T FOLLOW FAIL-TUBE VIDS.... The first step that you need to do is find out what system menu version your wii is. After you find out that piece of information there are two guides that you can use.
If you are on 3.1-4.1 system menu you can use the guide by dogeggs: [[Guide]]
If you are on the 4.2 system menu the you can use the guide by Shadowsonic2: [[Guide]]
Along the journey of modding your wii you might run into errors when trying to mod the software or install software on your wii. Members have created a list for this and can be accessed here: Wiihacks Error Index, most if not all of the errors are in there and how to fix them. If there is a certain guide that you are looking for or dont know if there is one yet well look no further: Wiihacks Guide Index (by username)

Alright guys thank you for all the great answers. I got the homebrew channel on the wii, the wiimc works great, its playing videos off the external hard drive wonderfully. This is my last question I promise: is there a way to put wiimc on the external hard drive so that it can be loaded straight from the external and not from the sd card?
Yes, just move the sd:/app/wiimc folder to the usb drive. Works and loads from USB perfectly fine.
OK so i'm having a rather large problem now. For some reason while i'm watching a video on wiimc, after a while the video will kind of slow down and then stop altogether. Then i have to completely restart wiimc in order to have it even detect the external hdd. Any idea why this is happening?
there is a ios (202 i think google to be sure) that allows usb 2.0 try installing that and see if it helps(install via wad manager), provided they are on the HD that is.....if you are streaming PC to wii it could be an external factor (someone else using your wifi network)
Ok, so i followed the guide in Stomp's sig and when i ran the hermes cios installer, i got an error code -1017. What on earth does this mean and how do i get this darn IOS202 on my wii?
You need a fakesigned IOS or cIOS to install Hermes IOS202. I recommend following one of our soft-mod guides.
Damn I suck!!!!
So it sounds like this is what i need to do before running that hermes program. http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...0-4-1-wii.html
Am i correct in saying this? I just want an expert opinion before i go and ruin my wii.
OK guys, i went ahead and went through the steps in my last post and got everything there to install right. After i did all that, i was able to sucessfully install IOS202. Unfortuntely, now WiiMC wont recognize my external hard drive. I can still access my external via mplayer, but when i try to play a video through mplayer the sound comes on, but i dont get video. I'm getting close to just giving up on the altogether. Any more advice?
I'd recommend using WiiMCs IOS202 installer located here: IOS 202 Installer 1.1.zip - wiimc - IOS 202 Installer 1.1 - Project Hosting on Google Code
New WiiMC 1.0.5 says it will not accept any other IOS202.
